In every story or movie there is always a sequence of events that leads to the theme of the story. Each of these events gets more in depth of the main characters and their characteristics that makes them who they are throughout the story. In the short film, “The New Tenants” and “Six Shooter” both revolves around death and foreshadows what will happen at the end of each story. With the theme come character development and in these films, the main characters over the short periods of time over comes many deaths and all survive.

The film develops the main character Mr. Donnelly from a person who does not believe in God to a point where he looks to the ceiling calling on Jesus after killing David (name of rabbit pet). The story opens up with Mr. Donnelly talking with the doctor who contemplated the death of his wife. The doctor apart from being a serious person shows aspect of humor when he explains how the woman died. He also says how busy he is handling the woman who had been shot to her son and unexplained cot death. Doctor character is depicted as composed, sympathetic and concerned about others well-being. All the affiliates of the deaths elucidated by the doctor including Mr. Donnelly board the same train and are involved in a dialogue. Convoy, the son of the deceased woman who happens to be his mother facades an outstanding character that glues people to the screen. Convoy is illustrated as a person with no friends. Profanity also falls in his character as through the film he dialogues in foul language that upset those around him nearly ending up with a confrontation where Mr. Donnelly calms down the situation. Convoy a vexatious character facades the woman in the film who has just lost a kid to jump off the train. He believes in the existence of God, unlike Donnelly. He is hilarious in that he thinks that old lads are supposed to believe in
There are many short stories in literature that share a common theme presented in different ways. A theme that always keeps readers’ attention is that of death because it is something that no one wants to face in real life, but something that can be easily faced when reading. “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson both exemplify how two authors use a common theme of death to stand as a metaphor for dystopian societies.
The book Renting Lacy: A Story of America’s Prostituted Children by Linda Smith addresses the topic of the underground world of child sex trafficking. Unfortunately, it is a topic that has been purposefully neglected in our society for many years. The author presents every chapter with a real story of a sexually exploited child. The stories are intense, powerful but especially touching which makes the reader feel frustrated, desperate, and vexed. After every chapter, Smith tries to include commentaries that presents a deeper understating about human trafficking. It seems that the purpose of her commentaries is to make the reader think deeper about the problem of sex trafficking and accumulate desires to act towards this issue as they continue
The book begins as a mystery novel with a goal of finding the killer of the neighbor's dog, Wellington. The mystery of the dog is solved mid-way through the book, and the story shifts towards the Boone family. We learn through a series of events that Christopher has been lied to the past two years of his life. Christopher's father told him that his mother had died in the hospital. In reality she moved to London to start a new life because she was unable to handle her demanding child. With this discovery, Christopher's world of absolutes is turned upside-down and his faith in his father is destroyed. Christopher, a child that has never traveled alone going any further than his school, leaves his home in order to travel across the country to find his mother who is living in London.
As both Philip and Sylvia lay in separate beds, in separate rooms, both are ready to free themselves from all prior fears and denials. Philip’s last moments in his life are his best. He gains a sense of humor as he laughs about Chinese Jews and Jews in love with horses. Harry’s wife says, “We finally found a sense of humor in you,” as Philip answers, “I finally figured out the joke.” Philip was truly ready to look himself in the mirror and love his face. Tragically, Sylvia’s standing up symbolizes the start of her new life, while Philip’s change of heart is already too late. Ironically, this time, Phillip is the one asking for forgiveness.

The hospital scenes also show that men are so accustomed to death, they know when someone is going to die, and can tell the degree of an injury when it happens.

Caden is always referring to the inevitability of death and the idea that everyone is already dead. Caden is very much obsessed with the decline in his physical appearance as he gets older; always poking at bumps, examining anything seemed out of the ordinary, and concerned with disease. Caden believes he is dying throughout most of the film but he in fact is the last person to die out of everyone he ever cared about. The movie starts with violence when there is blood all over the walls when Caden is violently injured by his exploding sink pipes but ends with a serene command. From Caden, we can learn to not take the time we have to express ourselves and how we feel for granted. We can learn that time is a constant movement that you cannot turn back.

Death is, perhaps, the most universal of themes that an author can choose to write of. Death comes to all things; not so love, betrayal, happiness, or suffering. Each death is certain, but each is also unique. In Other Voices, Other Rooms, Truman Capote addresses several deaths, and each is handled in its individual fashion. From the manner of the death to its effect on those it touches, Capote crafts vignettes within the story to give the reader a very different sense of each one.
The theme of death is present in many works of literature. It is given metaphors and cloaked with different meanings, yet it always represents an end. Every end signifies a new beginning, and every death gives rise to a new birth. James Joyce's short story "The Dead" deals with the meaning of life. This title is significant and enhances several aspects of the story.
