It Takes a Team with Passion When I first purchased my horse it was my goal to be able to compete under the lights and banners and in the arenas that make up the World Show. I know that the competition is stiff and that every competitor wants the same thing, to take home the World Champion title. Every time I receive my new APHA journal I flip through the pages in awe of all of the horses and riders that compete at this level each year setting my sights on obtaining that goal myself. In the 2012 issues I read of a new opportunity, the world games. I knew as soon as I had read about the opportunity I would be applying for the 2014 games for my last year as a youth. I am very passionate about the American Paint Horse and love to share my experiences with this animal. It would be an honor to be able to represent this sport at this prestigious of a level. The world games is a great opportunity for youth who have the talent but may not have the resources to make it to the world show on their own to compete at the world level. I believe I am one of those youth. I have been riding horses...
Indian Horse is a novel by Richard Wagamese that beautifully explores the idea of family, and what it means to have people around you that make you feel at home. The reader is bombarded with an overwhelming sense of family and betrayal in the first few pages of the novel. As Richard Wagamese continues to write, one is able to see how safe Saul Indian Horse felt with his biological family, and he also shows how lost he felt without their love when he was taken to the Residential School. The school he was brought to was drained of all consensual love the moment it was open, and continued to fill the children with horrible feelings the entire time they were there. Indian Horse was unable to really feel as though he still had family while he was in the
Since 776 BCE, the Olympics have been a way for people of different cultures to come together and compete in friendly competition. “God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good” Genesis 1:25. When God created the earth he uniquely formed each animal with different characteristics, yet each special in their own way. Not one animal possess the same construction like another. Referring to the majestic species of horses, many owners find a multitude of issues they face within the care of horses. Specifically, the ongoing debate of placing shoes on a horse verses leaving them barefoot. Frankly, the decision comes down to the expense of the shoes, the discipline in which the horse engages, and consideration of the advantages and disadvantages to both sides of the argument.

In the past the Olympic games were used as a way for the Greeks to honor their gods. Today the games are not an honoring but more of a social gathering. The events and games of the Olympics are of several different types. There are individual contests, where each athlete plays alone. To win this type of contests, one athlete must be better, faster, or stronger than other athletes.
As tourists wander the trails of Mesa Verde National Park they might see wild horse and elk competing for the same water source. Wild horses from the nearby Ute Mountain Ute Reserve wander into Mesa Verde on a daily basis. The horses have been around since the opening of the park in 1906, but with recent water shortages from drought, there is not enough water to fulfill the needs of all the animals in the park. Since the horses are considered trespassing, the National Park Service and The Bureau of Land Management are trying to find a way to keep the horses away from the park. The wild horses of Mesa Verde National Park deserve to live in the park even though the horses have caused some complications within Mesa Verde, and the National Park Service needs to provide better management services for the horses.

Success in the equestrian world can be difficult to achieve. There are many different principles and ideas as to how it can be accomplished. There are a variety of horses, disciplines, and trainers. Training a young horse can be a difficult task, and often for beginning trainers a confusing task as well. Striking out on one’s own and deciding how to train a horse is a highly debated project. Many trainers choose to either follow the treaded path of traditional training methods or natural horsemanship techniques. As an animal science major, it is important for my career to decide how I will approach training, and stay strong to my decision. It is a choice to be carefully considered; which school of thought, natural horsemanship techniques, traditional training methods, or alternative training will I obey through my career?

The greatest athletes of all time have their names set in stone. Every year a new star comes out of the shadows and becomes the focus of global interest. Nations back their athletes financially to ensure they receive a medal. Winning gold in the Olympics Games is seen as the highest honor an athlete can achieve because of its prestigious image. The Olympics have not always been about the athletes. Nations competing have been victims of political scandals. When one country goes against another country, some people do not only view it as a fight for gold, but as a war amongst nations. Soccer fields have become battlegrounds and players, soldiers. Swimming pools turn into bloodbaths, and tennis court nets as do territorial partitions. Since the early 1900s, governments have used the Olympics to prove that their nation is superior by spending more on athletic ability, more on Olympic stadiums, and more on defeating their rivals. At times, athletes can be pushed so far that they collapse under the pressure of chasing for gold. All of the above will be discoursed from a financial, political, and historical point of view.
Horseback riding is not an activity most people think of, but it is a great escape for some people. Horseback riding is not just saddling up and riding, people have to have a passion for horses and riding. Some things to keep in mind when riding is balance and knowledge on how to keep the horse under control. People can be told how to ride, but each person will have to find a style that works for them. When riding a horse the concept of time, destination and worries do not exist.
