Pursuing this Aerospace Engineering course will not only lead me towards a thriving career. I am confident that it will change my personality, and change the way I think, behave and perceive the world around me. I interact often with people that have a career in the field and I am convinced that in the process of completing these modules my overall thinking skills and my wisdom will improve . Partaking in a variety of activities and exploring new experiences is a necessity for me, even when it isn't directly related to what I am studying. A great example would be one of my work experience weeks which was in a hospital. Even though I was completely surrounded by students who wanted to enter the medical field, I still found a way to relate what I was exploring to engineering. Skills such as time management, technical expertise and professionalism where scrutinized. These skills have been applied to both my personal/school life and have been developing ever since. I chose to get the experience in a hospital because I strongly adhere to the idea of disruptive thinking which I believe is an essence to engineering that is commonly unappreciated by students. In those years, I have made a lot of progress that lead me to become an Instructor-Assistant. I have solved many problems in these challenging years and I see my self-esteem rise every time I submerge under the sea water. An unforgotten impediment that I faced was that I was surrounded by mates who were from a completely different age group,I felt unfit both physically and socially compared to the people around me. Being who I am, I started to socialize more and eventually felt comfortable around them. In actual fact, I took the advantage of this rare experience to observe what people at the age of twenty and thirty are like and I took on some of their clever habits into my own
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. The passionate way in which he discussed the practice of medicine led me to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a physician. Oddly enough, I liked giving obese, old patients bed baths, helping them to the bathroom, and cleaning their bed pans. But, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t exactly what I loved doing, but I knew it was part of the job, and I willingly did the dirty work. By the end of my junior year, I knew I loved the hospital environment and wanted to eventually work there; however, I just didn’t know in what capacity. Fortunately, during a slow day in my last semester of shadowing, a nurse asked me if I would like to see a surgery being performed. I quickly accepted the offer, and I got to watch a surgeon perform an eye lift procedure. This experience, one of the most interesting I had ever witnessed, made me realize the area of the hospital that interested me most, the operating room. More specifically, I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. The path to become an orthopedic surgeon is not a quick nor easy one. Ever since I was younger, I wanted to get into the medical field. Both my grandmothers used to work in the hospital and I would always wanted to tag along. Following them to work influenced my decision to work in a hospital. Every time I tag along, I would see many interesting things that would catch my attention and make me curious. There was a lot of materials such as the stethoscope, weighing machine, and etcetera that I would pretend to be a doctor or nurse examining imaginary people. It was absolutely perfect because I always wanted to help people. So this fall of 2014, I will be starting my education on becoming a nurse anesthetist.
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. It was becoming increasing clear to me that the hospital environment was a community that I knew one day I wanted to be a part of. For three summers, I shadowed one emergency room physician who has been an amazing role model and mentor. This exposure taught me not only a plethora of terms, but to think critically and quickly and to prioritize and reason in ways that had immediate benefit. I also learned a great deal about bedside manner, and how important it is to be culturally and emotionally sensitive to patients. Like my family, this physician noticed so many important things about people- who they are and what matters to them. She knew just when to touch someone on the shoulder, or to step back. She accounted for age and class and race and subtleties that don’t even have words. She viewed each patient as a whole person. One night a woman was brought into the ER after a car crash and needed a neurological exam immediately. She was wearing a hijab. This physician kindly addressed the woman and asked her if she wanted the door closed while she took off her hijab. They both knew the cultural significance, helping this patient to feel respected and less
I had known for years that I wanted to work in the health care field, but I always believed it would be as a doctor. I watched for the first few years of my brother’s life as he struggled with different health challenges such as being born premature, having croup and breathing difficulty, and speech impairment. Watching my brother struggle and then being able to overcome these difficulties, as well as seeing other children around him who were not as fortunate, really pushed me even at a young age to make a difference. My family, both immediate and extended, were very supportive, and I felt a real positive push towards working hard to achieve that goal of working in health care. In high school, I was fortunate enough to do a cooperative placement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit. In order to determine whether or not clinical medicine was the right career for me, I started shadowing Dr. Richard Turner in the ER. Through my experiences with him, I learned that medicine is a problem solving process. As I watched, he would take a patient's history and try to piece together the correct diagnosis by deciding which scenarios were more likely than others. I was attracted by the dynamic nature of each patient's diagnosis and the necessity for an open mind. My hobby of flying has taught me to look at everything in life with a new perspective and to assess the situation from as many angles as possible. Watching Dr. Turner has confirmed my perception of a medical career and the nature of the work involved. Since I love puzzles and problems, the problem solving aspect also increased my desire to become a physician.

I have always felt drawn to medicine and working in the medical field. Upon entering college, I oscillated between going into the pre-med program or doing engineering, I had no idea what I was meant to do with my life. In this time of contemplation, I found myself being guided towards engineering, whether this was pressuring from others or God, I’m not sure, but I felt it was the right place for me. Since entering college, my understanding of what it means to be a student has changed. I have found that I needed to make a more conscious effort when studying or doing homework. I have realized that this is the time to learn and absorb knowledge because this is one of the last steps in my education. With this in mind I have been trying to take advantage of the resources the college offers. I have already signed up for a tutor and meet with them once a week. I also visit with my classmates after class or at night if I find I am struggling to complete difficult assignments. Aeronautical engineering is also known as aerospace engineering. This is a complex, rapidly changing field. In 1958 the 1st definition of aerospace engineering appeared. The 1st sketches of flight vehicles were drew by the famous Leonardo da Vinci. In 1983, manned flight was 1st achieved.The 1st breakthrough was by Sir George Cayley when he 1st drew an airplane incorporating a fixed wing for lift. Cayley then turned to gliders and built the 1st successful one in 1849. Gliding flights established a data base for aerodynamics and aircraft design. Otto Lilienthal, a German scientist record more than 2000 glides in a five-year period, beginning in 1981. The Wright brothers then refined their own design, eventually selling airplanes to the U.S Army. That was the beginning in aerospace engineering.
This change makes me involve in more other activities and eventually leads me to a successful Engineer. Education brings me a healthy body and mind throughout my life. Finally a career that embraces a program of continuous lifelong learning will ensure that I have a successful career.
