Abortion is the deliberate termination of a fetus before it is viable. With the ever changing standards of society, abortions are becoming more condoned. In our American society, this is a controversial issue, however, it should generally be supported because the well-being of the mother could be at stake, the government should not have the authority over a personal decision, and the mother has an inherent right over her own body. At times, a developing baby could cause severe medical issues with the mother, resulting in a life or death situation. However, during a pregnancy, complications may not only be a danger to the mother, but the fetus as well. The government can be helpful with laws, but banning women from getting an abortion would not be helpful at all. Giving the government the authority to make a personal decision like this, makes it seem like they know what is best for us. Or that they are apart of the discussion between a woman and her physician. They should not be at the table when there is a situation like such. “As politicians across the country succeed in restricting access to abortion, women are paying the price; laws that restrict access to abortion hurt women's health and endanger their safety” (2016). Abortion seems immoral when it comes to the thought of killing another human being. The baby is endowed rights and has no say in whether or not it should be brought into the world. Plus, during the process of an abortion, the baby will experience the pain and will have to suffer. However, “not only has the biological development not yet occurred to support pain experience, but the environment after birth, so necessary to the development of pain experience, is also yet to occur” (ProCon.org, 2016).
