Most adults my age are in a pivotal time in their life, deciding their career path and starting a family. In July of 2008, I was in an accident that nearly cost me my life. Ever since that traumatic incident and receiving the care that I was given, I wanted to somehow make a difference in this world. In that moment I realized I wanted to be in healthcare and help people the best way that I can.
Today, healthcare providers don’t have time to see all their patients or even have a follow up. Low in personnel and time, physicians are pressured to cure a patient’s observable symptoms without fully understanding the patient as a whole person. I want to be a physician assistant that helps clinics and hospitals treat patients holistically. By providing primary care and working on less complex cases, physician assistants play a major role in allowing physicians to allocate their time and energy to more specialized care.
My interest in healthcare began in 2010. I had the opportunity to work as an occupational therapist aid, specifically working with children with autism for a year. Within that year my interest in healthcare had grown. Working as an occupational therapist aid I’ve had the opportunity to work with many people from different backgrounds, learning about autism and what it does to families, but the greatest part was that this job helped build my patience and it reinforced the passion in me to help people.
Becoming a PA has been my passion since I learned about the profession through a conversation with my uncle four years ago. Since then I have researched about this profession, speaking with physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals as well as volunteering at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. As a volunteer I e...

... a summer program known as VBS, which served nearly 100 children and required management of over several game and food kiosks and fundraising. This project involved dynamic leadership and clear communication skills, both of which are qualities important to being a confident and trustworthy PA.
The culmination of my past experiences has given me insight by helping me understand the role of a PA and their importance in our healthcare system. I am encouraged to pursue what I’m meant to do by continuous family support, experiences as a volunteer, involvement with the community, and also from visualizing the PA I would like to become.
Please grant me the privilege of admission to your school and to the best of my ability, I will become a member of a group of distinguished PA professionals, a positive role model for my community, and a true advocate for all my patients.
Physician Assistant is a career choice that entails various specialties and flexibilities that attracts many. Those who desires a path to practice medicine as soon as possible, PA 's lateral mobility allows that to happen. Compared to medical school, PA school requires less time and amount less debt. As the population grows and chronic diseases spreads, The future projection of PA is growing faster than the average careers.
I believe that people everywhere should always have access to adequate medical care. Where you live should not determine whether you live, and the PA profession was created to improve the availability of healthcare in rural and other underserved areas. As a PA, I would be eager to help people have not had access to the care they needed. I want to serve those that need medical attention but don’t have the means to obtain it—whether in rural Michigan, the inner-city of Atlanta, or the backwoods of Arkansas. Making great medical care accessible to all is crucial to improving public health, and it is a necessity across this country and the world. As a physician assistant,
Practicing in the medical field is a respectable profession, since its main goal is to help others when they are in need. Although, I’m not sure of what job I will have, I do know that it will be in the field of medicine. I hope through the mentoring program I will be able to decide if a Certified Medical Assistant is the job for me.
At Seton Hill, I will be a student of the 5-year physician assistant program. From visiting campus and interviewing with the PA program staff, I am confident that Seton Hill will shape me into a competent and compassionate medical professional. Furthermore, I am confident that my fellow students and I will have an opportunity to make a difference in the community. A main pillar of the physician assistant career is catering the underserved populations. With a simple internet search, anyone can deduce
I am interested in pursuing the Physician Assistant (PA) degree because of my experiences both within the medical field and as a patient. These experiences have led me to believe that a team approach to patient-centered medicine provides the best and most comprehensive care possible. Further, the PA profession offers me the opportunity to continue my lifelong passion of helping others, giving back to my community, and provides me with further opportunities to teach.
Over the last nine years, I have been in the healthcare profession. When I was younger, I never imagined myself wanting a career when I would manage people, but who does? I always aspired to be a pilot, until reality kicked in. When I was fifteen, I had to volunteer a couple hundreds of hours for the school program in which I attended. I decided to volunteer at a local hospital. Little did I know that volunteering for three years would have led me into wanting a profession in healthcare. After volunteering for three years, I decided to get a job for a local community health center, where I have been employed for the last six years. I have held several different positions in those six years and I have learned a plethora of skills, many involving interpersonal communication.
While PAs often work independently, consulting their supervising physician only when needed, it is important that they are able to work well under another health care professional. I enjoy this aspect of my current position as restorative nursing assistant, as it allows me to alleviate the burden on our physical and occupational therapists and allow them to do their jobs more effectively. I am also excited by the opportunities available to PAs that are not readily accessible to medical doctors. I was able to talk with a retired PA who now teaches in a PA program and spoke of his time working in the emergency department, from which he transitioned into family care. This change would be difficult for an MD but is common for PAs. I am greatly drawn to practicing in pediatrics, as I believe that choices made early in life will have a direct impact on future health, especially for those who may have limited access to medical resources. However, the fast-paced setting of the ER and the technical precision working as a first surgical assistant also intrigue me. I relish every occasion to learn and challenge myself and, as a PA, I would have the freedom to utilize my skills in various disciplines and thus push myself to find the field where I feel I can do the most
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
At thirteen I left my home in sunny Miami, Florida to attend a boarding school in snowy Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During those four years I learned to be independent, and to work effectively with my peers. One year, a group of students and I began to visit patients every
I know that by doing my job, no matter how different each patient may be, that I have made a difference in someone’s life. I am very content in my job knowing that there is an increasing need in healthcare. With the demand of healthcare today, there will always be a demand for physicians, and with the need of physicians there will always be a need for medical assistants. In this profession the rewards and opportunities will only continue to grow, and there is not a better place to than here in America, because like Ralph Waldo Emerson (journalist, poet, philosopher, and essayist) once said, “America is another name for
I have had the opportunity to work alongside a diverse and extensive number of doctors and nurse practitioners, among other health professionals, which has exposed me to different ways of practicing, different work ethics, skills, and abilities. I know what patients typically consider to be desirable and undesirable traits of health professionals.
“To do what nobody else will do, a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through; is to be a nurse,” said Rawsi Williams, a registered RN. This quote completely captures the duties and responsibilities it takes to be in a healthcare profession. Like many health care occupations, nurse practitioners provide ‘patient-centered, accessible, high-quality health care’ (NP Public Awareness). They learn their roles by practicing in education facilities before heading out to the real world where everything they have learned help to save people’s lives. Now achieving doctorate degrees, nurse practitioners are slowly widening the professional field for nurses everywhere by continuing to maintain contact with
I found a job as CNA for the patient who had disabilities. One patient in particular changed the direction of my life and started me thinking about working in medicine. I took care of an older woman who was unable to ambulate due to her diagnosis of stroke. She experienced chronic weakness of bilateral lower extremity so I supported her with my arms to steady her. When I looked into her eyes, I could feel her saying, “you truly care about me, understand me, and thank you for taking the time to sense my expression and desire.” That’s the care all of us have deep inside, where our motives no longer become self-seeking but other-seeking. This care has the power to exponentially change that person’s life and the lives of others. It is true that other patients helped me decide to go into medicine, but Stacy had the biggest impact in my
My chosen profession is Healthcare Administration. Healthcare Administrators plan, direct, and coordinate health and medical services in many organizations. They are responsible for administering the financials, managing personnel, maintaining boards, analyzing facility activities, and planning programs (11-9111.00 - Medical and Health Services Managers, n.d.). Depending on specific occupation acquired, several different softwares can be learned. Skills such as administration, customer service, human resources, and accounting are imperative for this career as interacting with people is the majority of this job. It entails reading, speaking, actively listening, critical thinking, and decision making (11-9111.00 - Medical and Health Services
My career of nursing is like the cyclical pattern of life, as time passes and situations are experienced, one is shaped into a certain individual/professional, ending up in places that never seemed to be part of life’s plan. Personally, the challenges and triumphs of providing patient centered care to help others live a healthier life, and aiming to prevent illness, is rewarding and quite humbling. As I continue to learn about opportunities to provide individualized care to patients and their families, I further understand the imperativeness of the “whole person,” which is a critical skill of a nurse practitioner. As a skilled clinician, progressing in my career as an aspiring family nurse practitioner in the Stony Brook University School of Nursing, I will impact my patients by providing them comprehensive care that will result in improved quality of life.
