When you compare Bollywood and Hollywood, you can definitely see that there are several differences and similarities when you think about it. You would think that the United States would produce more movies a year than anywhere else in the world. But in actuality, Bollywood is known for producing more than 800 films a year! For starters, a major difference is that your average Hollywood movie does not have dancing and singing in EVERY MOVIE unless you are thinking about High School Musical. Most of the Bollywood films that come out are heavy emotions, comedy, action, romance, or suspense. Bollywood movies most probably max out Hollywood cinemas when you talk about the release of movies. Indian celebrities and movies are a major hit in the west and give A LOT of revenue to the Indian movie theaters. Hollywood or Bollywood? You cannot look an answer on which film industry is better because this all comes from opinion. In my opinion, I would think that Bollywood is a lot better than Hollywood because I love the songs that come with the movies, and the plot lines of the movies. My parents are from Guyana, so our religion is Hinduism. It doesn’t mean we speak Hindi or eat Indian food, but when it comes to Bollywood films, it becomes serious. Guyana families absolutely LOVE Bollywood films! At weddings, we dance to mainly the Indian songs that come from the movies. Bollywood movies are so catchy and amazing. Yes, most of the movies are all about romance, all the movies have some romance, but they do also focus on other genres, like comedy, action, horror, and so much more. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, probably is the biggest and most popular film that a lot of people would know about, not only in India but also in America. The movie is about a rich family son who falls in love with a girl who isn’t as wealthy as him. And when he tells his father that he wants to marry her, he disowns him and says that he does not count him as his child anymore. A few years later, the younger son, goes to find his brother who had been disowned and brings him back into the family. Film makers use many historical events to spark up and idea for a movie. One historical event that is commonly used is war. One advantage a film maker has when using war as a movie plot is that there is already a lot of drama in war. This may seem like a good advantage for the film maker, however focusing on all of the drama of war leaves much of the actual info. When watching a war movie, you may feel like you have an understanding about the war, but when you really compare a war movie to an actual war you find that there is a lot of factual information left out. One may ask why would directors and film makers leave out the facts of war and focus on the drama? After reading The Faces of Battle by John Keegan and reviewing war movies such as Saving Private Ryan, and Pearl Harbor, one can clearly see what makes the Hollywood version of war different from real life war.

Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder in 1950 is based on how Norma Desmond, a huge Hollywood star, deals with her fall from fame. Sunset Boulevard is seen as lifting the ‘face’ of the Hollywood Studio System to reveal the truth behind the organisation. Throughout this course on American Cinema I have really enjoyed learning about the history of Hollywood. Looking at the golden age of Hollywood during the use of the studio system makes me wish I could go back in time and visit the studios to watch movies being made. Many people in today’s world have sadly never even heard of the studio system. In this essay I will describe what the studio system is ,especially during the golden age in Hollywood, and also I will analyze and discuss some of the reasons that contributed to the downfall of this system.
