Introduction:
The book “Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God” by Francis Chan is book for those who want more from their relationship with Jesus. He wants us to really think about our relationship and see whether or not we are giving off good or bad fruit, what can we do to really deepen our relationship with Jesus. Coming into college I had no idea what to expect, but I knew one thing, that I was not going to lose myself and my faith to college and my social life. In life we do not really have control of the many things we do or the obstacles that we face, but this, my faith, I did. I decide whether my faith and my relationship with Jesus was going to exceed or was I going to fail him. But as the weeks went by, I saw myself distancing from the one thing that made me happy, that fulfilled me grow darker and slimer by the days. I want to get out of this rut, this place where I am not happy that even when the sun shines my days are dull and full of darkness, this is why I need to fix my relationship with God. I need to

If this book was rated like a movie I would give it 5 stars and if this were a song I would pray that it would an academy award, this is how amazing this book is. Before reading this book, I just wanted it to help me better my relationship with God and answer a few questions that I had regarding where I stood with God. This book exceeded my expectations and it has opened the doors for me to not only be my own preacher but help other find God and help them establish a relationship with him. Reading this book, has encouraged me to start going to church more often and attend bible studies or youth group and pray more. Stuff and money is becoming more important in people’s lives. They forget how much more important the Holy Spirit is in their lives. Forgetting how powerful the Lord is, they begin relying on material items. In eternity, material items will not be of any value! Like the Li family in Safely Home, the Lord wants His followers to rely on Him to provide, instead a sundry of Christ followers begin to depend considerably on money, jobs, and people for providence. In Safely Home, the story illustrates how Christians are to live with God as their provider because when a Christian lives a life in dependence on God, they rightfully focus on the Lord as their provider. God can direct a person’s path in a way no one else is able to. Just like Li Quan, Ming, Shen and all the other Christians in the story accepted, God’s thoughts will become one’s own thoughts and His words will become one’s own words. However, without fully realizing, Ben Fielding was living to serve himself. He was dedicated to his job, being successful, and well-off, but he was still empty inside. This particular successful businessman was always searching for something to fill the hole in his heart until he truly experienced the Lord and His presence. In the first chapter of God Behaving Badly, David Lamb argues that God is unfairly given a bad reputation. He claims these negative perceptions are fueled by pop culture and lead many to believe the lie that the God of the Old Testament is angry, sexist, racist, violent, legalistic, rigid, and distant. These negative perceptions, in turn, affect our faith. Ultimately, Lamb seeks to demonstrate that historical context disproves the presumptuous aforementioned. In addition, he defends his position by citing patterns of descriptions that characterize God throughout the Old Testament. “Our image of God will directly affect how we either pursue or avoid God. If we believe that the God of the Old Testament is really harsh, unfair and cruel, we won’t want anything to do with him” (Lamb 22). Clearly, they way Christians choose to see God will shape their relationship with Him.
The development of technology contributes to the development of medical advance. The advanced medical procedures offer people to have longer lives compared with in the past. If people cannot avoid death in the past because of a slight illness, such as pneumonia or some infections, they are no longer exposed to the possibility of the death thankful for the development of medicine. The novel Makes Me Wanna Holler discusses the problems of the black Americans from an insider’s prospective. When I say black Americans, I mean from the cultural issues, fatherhood, family, and how blacks working class families are anything, but lazy. Nathan recalls his troubled childhood, rehabilitation while in prison, and his success with the Washington Post. The novel helped me understand the mindset of black males and why some choose to be affiliated with gangs. Additionally, I learned that bouncing back from a hardship time help you regain strength because Nathan went threw a lot. However, I did not relate to the novel, but I understood the concept of it. The title of this book speaks out loud about the inner struggle that he encounter.
In the article, How Jesus Transforms the Church, Skip Ryan states that “Christ changes us by loving us.” “He purposes to love us.” He also states, “I want you to see the overwhelming, transforming, marvelous, empowering, equipping, and graceful love of Christ, which is only seen against the backdrop of how completely and totally unworthy of it you and I are.” “When someone loves you, it really has the catalytic power in your life to change you; when you are loved, you are transformed by that love, and the degree of the transformation usually correlates to the depth and extent of the love.” “Christ does not first make you holy and then love you.

Reading has been a pastime many have enjoyed in their lives. Throughout history civilizations have sought out scholarly books, scriptures, and books of interest. They have delighted in the pages that brought them adventure, courage, hope, and solitude. Technology has allowed us to have easy access to e-books and scriptures. We can read anywhere we like. But has the quality of our reading declined? Are we having meaningful learning either spiritual or temporal? Are we taking the time to read, ponder and pray on the things that we learn or are we just reading a verse or two and calling it “learning”? Gerald May’s book Addiction & Grace: Love and Spirituality in the Healing of Addictions is a wonderful book that addresses grace, freewill, and forgiveness around addictions. The reader should keep in mind that the book is written from May’s personal views and experience. May (1988) states that he is “neither a trained theologian nor a scriptural scholar [and] this book is full of my own theological assumptions” (p. vi). The book is written to help the reader understand how addiction keeps one’s focus on things other than God. The reader learns about the struggle with sin and how the conflict creates awareness to addictive behavior. While the book offers some great understanding regarding addictions and spirituality, it is also based on a reflection of May’s own personal view and experience with addictions.

This was an immense aid in boosting my spiritual walk with God I was happy to read it although in all honestly I only read 95% of the book. I read the book but skimmed through some of the bigger books.
The human experience is what connects people to one another. What we experience defines who we are and who we become. It also defines how we interact with others. The amazing thing is that not only do the events that bring joy, peace and happiness connect us but also those that bring anxiety, fear and despair. This brings to light the fact that God somehow in his sovereignty uses all things for the good of those who love Him. These ideas are brought to light in Jerry Sittser’s book, A Grace Disguised which is his personal journey of loss and the insight and experience that was gained in the face of great tragedy. In his book, Sittser discusses various insights he has gained, such as how Christian’s view sorrow, how families recover when someone they love develops a mental disorder, and the Christian view on suffering and forgiveness. I believe that the author has written a book that has many universal truths that can be applied to anyone’s life and they have the ability to bring healing to many. His ideas can also aid professionals who work with the mentally ill in becoming more compassionate.
Throughout the years, Jesus has been my rock. No matter what is happening in life, I have always been able to rely on Christ. Jesus gives peace in the midst of any situation. I have confidence that in any situation, Christ will provide for all my needs. My relationship with Jesus has given me hope for the future. The movie The Gospel of John (Seville, 2005) is a visual representation of the accounts of Jesus Christ life on earth. The big picture is that of God’s plan for a personal relationship with us. When God created humans, he put them into relationships, first with him and then with each other. The strength of the movie is how Jesus core values of truth, love and compassion are portrayed through his relationship with his disciples. Jesus fostered the relationships with his disciples, showing love through his teachings and interactions with societal outcast. He displayed his value system through the use of parables and commandments, and performing miracles.

Over the past year and a half I have felt a tremendous calling placed upon my life to spend my time on Earth pouring everything I am into a Christ centered ministry. When I first arrived in Southern California, from Indiana, I thought I had my whole life figured out. It was my belief that God had already made it completely obvious how I would spend the rest of my life serving his kingdom. I could not have been further away from the truth. God has revealed so much truth and knowledge to me that I am still having trouble wrapping my head around. However, through the book Jesus is____. written by my favorite pastor, Judah Smith, I have been opened up to new concepts and ideas that have been nothing short of mind blowing and full of Jesus’s truths.
