I got a wonderful opportunity to work for one of the best construction companies, which is Hathaway Dinwiddie. Hathaway Dinwiddie has been in construction industry for over 100 years. Back then they started as Dinwiddie construction and been a part of a lot of historic buildings in California. Hathaway Dinwiddie has an expertise in Building information modeling (BIM), Partnered delivery and lean construction, Design-Build, Quality Control, Best Value exploration, Sustainability and safety. Hathaway Dinwiddie has a history of using BIM back in 1998 and now they are using it at every stage of their projects. They use BIM to summarize quantity surveys, develop preliminary construction strategies and maintain coordination between their team and their partners. Hathaway Dinwiddie provides services like General Construction, Preconstruction, Design Build, Construction Management and Interior and special projects. Hathaway also believes in being one step ahead of its competitor and has been investing in the research and development field also.
Their masterpiece constructions consist of Getty Centre, California plaza, Team Disney and many more. They have been an active part in construction for educational institutions and have been making an amazing reputation in it. They have constructed buildings in UCI, UC Berkeley, Stanford and USC. Hathaway Dinwiddie and USC have a really old relation, which started with construction of USC Cinematic Building back in 2008. It was completed in 2013 and has been a pride for USC since then. I would like to thank my guide Rob Nastch who helped and provided me guidance in learning Primavera P6. I did learn a lot of new features of primavera P6 such as digger view and updating the project schedule as per the data date, making filters for the schedule and even making cost accounting reports. This helped me a lot and I am hoping to get better in this day by day with new a learning experience.
In the end I learnt a lot of things and would keep learning new things in this field(Scheduling) and I am pleased to inform you that I have been given an opportunity to continue as an intern on this project during the Fall 2015 and I am happy to inform you that I will be continuing my work to be a part of such a big and prestigious project.
As the United States economy struggles through a sluggish time with the stock market dropping and unemployment rising, being competitive in the job market has become extremely important among professionals. Engineers are no exception. For most engineering firms, being competitive and successful requires obtaining design projects offered by companies in other fields. These projects can range from designing heating and ventilation systems for office buildings to water systems for cities to computer networks for businesses—the list of possibilities and disciplines is extensive. To get these jobs, engineers must make a bid proposal for the project. Bidding involves estimating the entire cost of the project, including the designing and building processes, as well as the materials and labor. Usually, the company with the lowest bid and the best plan gets the job. The ethical issue in this process is determining the cheapest building materials and construction procedures possible without compromising public safety.

When starting construction on a new building, there are plenty of things that can and will go wrong. You will start to lay out the plumbing and find that it clashes with a wall or beam that cannot be moved. To finish your project, you must take more time and more money to adjust to the new layout. Another scenario is the owners won’t let you start construction because they can’t see the end result or where the specific design implements that had asked for are located. For the past few decades the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry has been looking for a solution to this problem. Projects would be set back due to design oversights. Without anything to predict these problems before they happen, these little setbacks were a common occurrence. Once building information modeling (BIM) was born, it was like their prayers had been answered. The future was here.
Before building any structure, it is very important to make sure that you have laid the proper groundwork. It creates stability, longevity, and allows the building process to confidently proceed efficiently and effectively. I find this development process, seeing a project through from start to finish, is very fulfilling.
