Growing up without a father can have a big effect on children and the way that they act as they get older. It has an effect on their behavior, how they treat others, how much they really care about life, and the list goes on and on. The U.S department of Health has stated that children living in a household headed by a female with no spouse present had a poverty rate of 47.6%, which is over 4 times the rate in married coupled families. Which means that children in a father-absent home are 4 times more likely to be poor, it is also said that children of a single-parent home are more than twice as likely to commit suicide. Also, they are at a dramatically greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse. Although there are a lot of effects of not having a father in the house, some effects can depend on whether you are a girl or boy. Of course it is a hard for a woman to raise a boy to a man, sometimes they don’t even take the time to raise their son. With that being said, that means a boy would try to raise himself, which is a hard thing to do. They don’t know how to treat women, because they were never taught. Fatherless sons are usually abusive in relationships, and they are most likely to be involved in crime. Another factor of being fatherless is being homosexual, the ratings for homosexual men growing up without fathers are 3 times the rate of those who grew up with fathers. They are at risk of becoming gang members, following the men that they see on the streets because that is like their father figure. They start not to care about life, leading to other things such as being homeless, poverty, and committing
