One of the many Biblical debates in today 's society is whether the Bible 's content can be taken literally or not. One of the main concerns in today 's discussion is whether the Bible can be trusted to represent the culture . Passages within the Bible. alluding to slavery and gender roles, have been questioned for their implication to society today. Parts of the Bible can be taken literally, while others need to be evaluated further based off the culture it was written, as long as it does not change the understanding of Christ. Often times people get caught up in details, such as women submitting to their husbands, and let it affect the way they view their entire faith. Keller does a great job of explaining that even if one cannot accept a small part of Christian faith, he/she does not need to reject the entire Bible, including what Christ did for him/her. Focusing on the resurrection and character of Christ, rather than getting tripped up in the small disagreements over interpretation, should become more important than debating the insignificant …show more content…

Although parts of the Bible should be taken literally, not all of the Bible was meant to be interpreted in this way. From a cultural perspective, it is important to remember that the Bible was written in a different time period from today 's. Because of this, commands may be more relevant to the social and cultural issues of the time, and may not have as much weight on current issues. It is important to differentiate between the important ideas of the Bible, and the teachings that are less central to its message.
