Self-Assessment Assignment The wellness paradigm is “the integration, balance, and harmony of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being through taking responsibility for one’s own health; posits that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts” (Seaward, 2015). The four components of the wellness paradigm are spiritual well-being, emotional well-being, mental well-being, and physical well-being. Spiritual well-being – The state of mature higher consciousness driving from insightful relationships with oneself and others, a strong value system, and a meaningful purpose in life. I know believing in God helps me heal and makes my faith much stronger. Believing in a higher also gives me hope that things will turn out the way they should. It can make your life much calmer and happier. Emotional wellness is important because it builds “trust, self-esteem, self-acceptance, self-confidence, and self-control” (Fatcow, 2016), Being able to build all these traits within oneself can help one cope with problems they may have and find solutions for them. Being aware of your emotional state will help encourage, and motivate you to strive and do your best in your life. We must know how we feel in every situation and we must know how to react and deal with our emotions and never let the negative emotions have power over our life. Mental wellness is important because “it provides a foundation to discover, process, and evaluate information” (Fatcow, 2016). Mental wellness can give one a sense of humor bringing happiness and laughter to their life. Having a clear mind can make it a lot easier when making decisions in my life. Physical wellness is important because taking care of your health can cause one to lead a healthy and long life. Ways to be healthy include eating right, exercising daily, and staying positive. There must be balance, to achieve optimum wellness. Making sure I have enough sleep, incorporating meditation to my life, and staying healthy, by eating right and exercising can give me a well lifestyle. Every life matters, so we must make it matter by making changes to our lives. Mindfulness has a lot to do with balancing out our lives. Mindfulness means that we must take time out of our day to “sit, stand, or lie down and focus on the breath, bodily sensations, sounds, other senses, or thoughts and emotions” (Stahl & Goldstein, 2010). This is something that I lack, I do not find time, or set aside time for myself, to be able to focus on myself to find inner peace, something that I know I
