In order to have effective followers, you must be an effective leader. A leader must have a number of characteristics to guide a group of effective followers to success. The leader must have good characteristics to show as an example for those who are watching. For example, it is like a mother with her baby. What ever the mother does, her child is most likely to do the same thing. The mother must be a good role model because she always has a little one watching her every move. A leader is a person who guides a group to be motivated and inspired for a common goal. Being a follower is much more than just doing what the leader says. Loyalty is important to an effective follower because what is a company without loyal employees. The leader must know and be able to trust the follower to make sure the job will be accomplished. The leader must also be able to depend on their effective followers. Effective followers need to be dependent and committed to the company, which is very important because if the employee is not committed then he or she will no do their job correctly. Commitment and loyalty tie in together for an effective follower because it shows the employer what sacrifices employees are willing to do. Sometimes sacrifices show how dedicated the person is to the job. For example, my co-worker at the law firm would travel to detention center in her own car. She would travel in her own car although our boss would not pay her extra for mileage or gas. She was loyal and committed to the job although there was no extra pay traveling expenses. My co-worker was an example of an effective follower although there was some wrong in sending her to the detention center in her own car to waste half of her pay check. An employee can not be an effective follower if they are not honest with that they do, moreover maintain confidentiality. Confidentiality is often used in every career and it is needed to be a good follower. The manager must be able to trust their followers and expect honesty when something is asked of them. For example, I was asked some questions in regard to an incident that happened at work. A client and the attorney were in a rumble due to the attorney leaving the court to do some work. The attorney 's client was not happy with the line of events that she said some words that should not have been said. As a witness, my confidentiality and honesty were used to tell the manager what had happened. As an effective follower and employee for the law firm, it was expected of me to tell the truth in the best interest of both
