I believe that there are many reasons that I am well qualified to receive this “Courage to Grow” scholarship. One main point would be my excellence in leadership and community service. I currently serve as senior class Vice President and President of the Future Teachers of America club at Auburn High School. I am a class representative for our Student Council and am very involved with the children’s ministry at my local church, serving as a Kids Camp counselor and VBS assembly leader. Another reason I believe I should receive this scholarship is for my outstanding academic achievements. I have been inducted into the National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society and the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honors Society. I have also received
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...

A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
I believe that I should be awarded the Courage to Grow Scholarship because of the impact it could have on my life. As a student pursuing a higher education I have set goals for myself and I believe that this scholarship will bring me one step closer to achieving them. I plan to be the first person in my family to graduate from college with an engineering degree. I am currently on track to complete my degree by May of 2020 and plan to begin working after I graduate, as an Electrical Engineer. Coming from a single-parent home it has always been my highest priority to get my degree and help my mother by becoming a success. With the help of this scholarship I will be making the necessary progress to turn that dream into a
My passion for public service initiated in my third grade reading class. It was there that I volunteered for “Reading Together USA”, a program to help younger children learn to read. The joy and delight that I felt from witnessing my students’ progress was unprecedented to any feeling that I ever felt before, and I knew from that point forward that my life would be committed to serving the public. Although my forms (TRYING TO SAY WAYS LIKE 1st pre-med then law) of serving others may have changed, the trend of service has remained constant through high school, college, and even my career.
As I look at the title Courage to Grow I asked myself , “Do I possess that courage to grow?” That courage I need to begin my journey into my college life and know that I will be successful through such journey. To both I answered yes. Being a first generation college student there is pressure on my shoulders to be great. Although the pressure was overbearing, I both knew and believed I have the ability to be successful. Awarded with this scholarship is the stepping stone for my journey to greatness. Double majoring in both Business and Psychology at Sacramento State University will help prepare me for my career goal as a counseling psychologist. I love helping others especially those battling with everyday issues, I want to be the outlet they
Getting this scholarship was my jump start to furthering my education and I knew from there that I was going to prove statistics wrong. I knew I was going to college and that things were going to be different for me and I was going to make a difference. I won’t be the black kid who drops out of school, because my education is too important to
I believe I am worthy of the scholarship. I try everyday to become a better person and help people in my community. I participate in extra activities during school, and out of school. I am a SADD member. I make good decisions everyday, and try to help others in making better decisions. I consider myself a leader and do what I want to do. I played volleyball all four years of high school. I became Varsity Volleyball Captain my senior year. I mentor and help the younger ones on how to fix their mistakes, or become a better player. I have helped out in Project MORE. I help younger kids with their schoolwork. I am also a kindergarten mentor. Life Happens Scholarship In July it will be two years since I got a call from my dad that turned my world upside down. With the tone in his voice, I could tell that something was extremely wrong. As soon as my sister and I got home, he sat us down and told us both that our mother had taken her life. As soon as those words left his mouth, I was speechless.
Scholarship Essay I believe setting goals for your future is important because it sets goals for you to reach. People need to learn that you need to see yourself in the future. This will help you reach your goals. Picturing your future can help you set up for many things.
There is this one quote that I also have in mind and believe, "Impossible is just a word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
I learned that life is going to throw you challenges and will attempt to set us back from our goals. Anybody can achieve any goal they set their minds to with hard work and determination. With my learning disability, I worked harder than those who were not limited in their strengths, but this turned out to be my ultimate strength. Working hard will only help you achieve in life. I view effort and trying as keys to success. I am a student diagnosed with a learning disability associated with my written expression, writing to your foundation because I never let a setback stop me from achieving my goals. I believe that I have an extraordinary message for others. I feel if I were the recipient for your scholarship it would definitely push me significantly closer to my goals coming from a son of a hard working single mother that I wish to give back what she has given
I deserve this scholarship because of my involvement, dedication, and financial need. I deserve this scholarship because of my involvement at West Marshall. I love organizing events and making sure it’s entertaining but serious at the same time.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
