I, Ashleigh Metzger, am a hard-working, passionate, thriving student. I am one of those who waited at my teacher's door waiting for school to start so I could turn in my pile of extra credit even though I already had an A. School was always a comfort for me. I like having my life on schedule, so school was the perfect place. My life was ran by a bell, which to my enjoyment made me a marvelous student. I am one of those rare students who actually enjoy school and can’t wait to start my journey as a college student. I deserve this scholarship because of my involvement, dedication, and financial need. I deserve this scholarship because of my involvement at West Marshall. I show leadership in FFA and FCCLA because I am an officer. In FCCLA I show my leadership skills by acting as president while in FFA I express my leadership skills by being Treasurer. I love organizing events and making sure it’s entertaining but serious at the same time. I make students feel comfortable to talk to me about anything. They can find me trustworthy not to tell but also a good listener. I also like taking charge and …show more content…
Currently I am taking three college classes: . While taking these classes, an opportunity arose to work at a bank. I am currently employed at State Bank & Trust as a bank teller. I have been working there since August 31st, 2015. It’s been a great experience, and I have been offered a full time position with full benefits starting this summer. I am also working at the Marshalltown YMCA. I coach volleyball for mentally disabled adults every tuesday night. On September 14, 2013 I acquired this position, and although I don’t make a lot of money, I would never leave my job at YMCA. I love my volleyball team and it would kill me to leave them. When I am not at school, college, or working, I am volunteering at the local Animal Rescue League. I love taking care of the animals and trying to help them find a forever
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
Feel I qualify for this scholarship because I love to help people. Through different experiences, such as sports and school, I have learned and demonstrated various leadership skills. Being a Link crew leader not only taught me how to be a leader but, it help me have faith in myself and to always look up to younger people. I joined link crew so I could help our new 10 graders find their way around, and to feel included and accepted at their new school. For example during orientation in august I was giving good amount of advice to my sophomore group to be able to survive high school since I am a senior this year This made me proud and humbled that I could make a huge impact in someone's life. Another reason is I am good at organization and
I am passionate about making a difference in as many lives as I possibly can. As someone who is also passionate about having a successful future, I believe that achieving this scholarship will allow me to pursue these passions and attain my academic goals of going to graduate school to get my PhD and become a Clinical Psychologist, possibly transfer to UGA as a junior, and to be responsible with my money and the way that I spend it.
I am a great candidate for this scholarship because I have been an active member through my FFA Chapter since my freshman year of high school by participating in community service activities and FFA competitions. Without the guidance
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
My passion for public service initiated in my third grade reading class. It was there that I volunteered for “Reading Together USA”, a program to help younger children learn to read. The joy and delight that I felt from witnessing my students’ progress was unprecedented to any feeling that I ever felt before, and I knew from that point forward that my life would be committed to serving the public. Although my forms (TRYING TO SAY WAYS LIKE 1st pre-med then law) of serving others may have changed, the trend of service has remained constant through high school, college, and even my career.
Every year, since I was in seventh grade, I have helped a teacher at my school teach younger students and kids in the community with volleyball skills. It was two weeks of staying after school until five o’ clock. We’d put first, second, and third grade together. Then we’d put fourth, fifth, and sixth grade together. During the practice I would help them with the simple things like their form, bumping, setting, hitting, and serving. After we worked on all of that, they’d get to choose a game to play to finish off practice. It’s something I enjoy doing, and I’m looking forward to doing it again this year and my senior year. Another service I’ve done is cleaned the ditch along the highway in Badger. It wasn’t the warmest day, and not many people came to help, but the few people that did come helped because we got done sooner. It took about three hours, and I felt it was the longest three hours ever, but when we finally got done, it was such a heart-warming feeling to know I helped out my
“Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work” –Thomas Edison. I have had to struggle to get where I am today, and there have been times that I thought I would not make it to my senior year of high school. My life would almost replicate the location of a natural disaster to some. I broke my arm this past October and had to undergo reconstructive surgery, everything academics wise fell out from under my feet. After having surgery on my arm I repeatedly missed school for occupational therapy, which is a form of physical therapy. On top of my arm, I had just gotten my job back at Arby’s. By November I was working anywhere from 20-35 hours a week with school, a broken arm, and OT. I had no time for anything, not even sleep. When I was at school I could barely keep my eyes open, it eventually got to the point that when I was able to attend a full day of school I would sleep during some of my classes so that I would not fall asleep at work that night. I have worked harder in this last year just to make it through, than I have in the last four years to keep my grades up. I work every night now, and my arm is a little more healed than it was when I first started my job, but I still have limitations as to what I can do as a human being. Throughout this essay I will cover these three major points; the most important thing that I have learned in high school, why the scholarship will make a difference in my educational goals, and how I hope to make a difference in the community with my career.
Describe the factors or attributes you feel make you a deserving candidate for this award. I feel as though I am very deserving of this award because I have worked very hard to keep my grades where they are at right now. Also there is not that many scholarships for student who are not freshman or transfer student. If I were to transfer to UTA right now with my current grades I would get the automatic scholarship that transfer students get if they have a 3.5 GPA. I think I have made great academic progress in my time here a UTA, and am only going to continue to get better, for this reason I believe i am a deserving candidate for this award.
I am passionate about my education, education it’s something that I take serious, and becoming a doctor, because I believe our world need more and more doctors everyday, people like me to save the lives of others and to make people feel confident and feel happy. With my personality I believe I am the best fit for this scholarship I am a hard working child who serve not only inside my home but also in the community. I speak to young children about the future and share my stories of how I made through life without a father or a Mother next to me. Also the way I was teased and bullied for having the darker complexion where I felt ashamed of who I was as being a black
In season, I am the goalkeeper for my school Hockey 1ST XI, and sometimes for my local hockey club. I enjoy this - although to prioritize work I have had to cut down on these activities recently. I also enjoy cycling and canoeing - I often ride to school in summer.
I want be able to offer them usable insight that will help them when it comes to making decisions in their educational or professional careers. I want to convey my students that while I am their professor, I am a personable and I also take interest in each of them individually, both personally and professionally. It is important that I am I able to build a rapport with my students so that when a problem arises they don’t have an issue coming and talking to me about it so that we can brainstorm together to find a solution that makes everybody happy. Teaching isn’t just about how to things, it’s also about taking into consideration how each group of students is learning and working within those parameters to provide them with the best education possible in the best
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
My strengths are the ability to interaction with students. I will try to use my time to build positive relationship with individuals and keep record of their behaviors, characteristics and specific concerns. This will allow the students to trust me and allow me
