William Shakespeare is considered to be the most influential English writer in the literary world, who is also called playwright, dramatist and poet. Shakespeare lived during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries and has produced so many high-praised plays which has been read so widely in so many countries. Undoubtedly, there is no other writer is able to attain as high achievement as Shakespeare. (“William Shakespeare Biography”). In other words, Shakespeare is such a legendary figure, and this paper is going to analyze the great respectable man’s work and life.

In Shakespeare’s early plays, they were more written in the traditional and conventional style. However Shakespeare was always innovative and tried to attempt to adapt the traditional style to his own purposes (“William Shakespeare Biography”). From some classics such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and Richard II written in the late 16 century, we can find that Shakespeare’s writing style gradually developed and changed from the traditional form to a more self-expressive style. The Soliloquy or monologue was also a common device that Shakespeare used to tell his stories, and this soliloquy served to reveal the character’s thoughts. For example, there is a well-known sentence monologue in the play “Hamlet”, “To be or not to be, that is a question.” We seem to be brought into the protagonist’ mind and feel much clearer about the setting and plot. After completing Hamlet, Shakespeare adopted a more centered, swift, distinct, and non-repetitive writing style. Run-on lines, uneven pauses and stops were used in sentence length and structure (“The Writing Style of William Shakespeare”). Additionally, Shakespeare’s writing style improved gradually with the change of time and society.
In sum, William Shakespeare is such a worldwide influential playwright, poet, and actor, who inspired and influenced numerous writers even in the 21st century. What’s more, Shakespeare’s life experience and expanded horizon helped to establish himself and form his own special writing
