President Barak Obama has had a very eventful first term, with several major accomplishments in healthcare, immigration, fighting terrorism, and the economy. His vast achievements regarding the wellbeing of the United States and its allies make him more than eligible for reelection this November. Despite his many successes, Obama has several critics who relentlessly attack him with claims that he has accomplished nothing and has actually caused harm to the nation. As numerous as these claims might be, the majority of them are not backed by actual facts and defy the evidence that lies in the president’s accomplishments, as well as his ability to achieve what was promised in the Democratic Party’s platform in 2008.

A fairly apparent strongpoint of the Obama administration is its ability to fight terrorism. The Democratic Party platform outlined a removal of all combat troops from Iraq as well as a reduction of the total number of troops from 170,000 to 50,000 (www.presidency.ucsb.edu). Barack Obama accomplished both of these goals on August 19th, 2010, and has shifted the focus of the War on Terror back to Afghanistan, the nation from which the 9/11 terrorist attacks were based and organized. The President also ordered the killings of over twenty-two major terrorist leaders, such as Anwar al-Awlaki and most importantly, Osama Bin Laden. These are very serious blows to very powerful terrorist organizations, which are sure to become more weakened and disorganized due to the loss of many of their key figures (www.usatoday.com).
