Through out the book, Who will run this frog hospital by Lorrie Moore, it explains that even after a girl has grown up and gets married to the man of her dreams, the person she truly marries is her best friend because she is the only person in the world who knows everything about her. Also, in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, friendship is the key to surviving through the horrendous terror of war. The protagonist would have never survived through the war, without the help and support of his buddies that changed his life forever. The friends one makes during war are referred to as their brothers and should be treated as so by protecting and looking out for as many of them as possible. Unfortunately, not everyone can be saved and protected every second of everyday, therefore soldiers often lose loved ones right in front of their eyes, which can cause a great deal of pain and guilt throughout their life.

In The Things We Carried, the most important lessons that still run through Tim O’Brien’s head today is the importance of friendship. It is tremendously important to not take friends for granted, because it is incredibly painful and miserable without them. It is extremely difficult to even fathom what it would be like to feel like you killed your own friend, and that is exactly how he felt after the war for a very long time. He endured losing one of his troop members because he was shot while going to the bathroom off the trail everyone was traveling on and because he was supposed to be watching after his troop members, he felt incredibly guilty for a very long time.
