LIPOSUCTION COSTS

According to 2013 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of liposuction in the United States was $2,866. However, it is important to note that this cost does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities, or other related expenses. When calculating the costs of liposuction, keep in mind that there is more to the price of the procedure than paying for the time when the doctor is actually performing it. You will need to budget for use of the surgical facilities, necessary medical tests, anesthesia, prescriptions and post-surgery garments, excess skin removal procedures, and any other follow-up treatment(s) that may be required.

Procedure Cost Breakdown

There are a number of elements that go into calculating the overall cost of any liposuction procedure. The costs associated with your particular liposuction plan are something that should be discussed in the initial consultation with your cosmetic surgeon. This initial consultation is often free with no obligation to undergo the procedure. However, you should clarify this with your physician before the consultation as some do have a fee that will be charged in the event that you decide not to go through with the procedure.

Here are some of the typical components that are added together to create your final bill.

Surgeon’s Fee

This is generally a flat fee that is quoted to you after determining your individual needs and varies based on the provider (and some of the factors that will be discussed later such as geography). While shopping around on the price of the surgeon is one of the easiest ways to reduce your overall liposuction costs, this is not necessarily...

Payment

You may have saved for years to get your liposuction in which case payment is as painless as payment ever can be. However, if you haven’t the savings to pay for everything up front, many surgeons offer financing plans for their customers. These can be private agreements with the physician or based on a credit application through a larger company that will charge interest along with the regular payments.

Health insurance generally will not pay for liposuction as it is seen as a cosmetic rather than necessary procedure. In addition, they will most often not cover any of the tests and treatments associated with the procedure preparation or recovery. You should check with your insurance provider to see if they will cover any medical treatments that might become necessary should any complications arise.
