“Opponents of social networking say that the sites prevent face-to-face communication; waste time on frivolous activity; alter children’s brains and behavior making them more prone to ADHD; and spread false and potentially dangerous information” stated in the article (Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society)? Social networking is changing the world of today. Teens assume social networking as beneficial but there are several disadvantages. Social networking has impacted teen’s lives’ and perspectives of the world. Social networking spreads false information, lacks privacy, lowers grades, and ends friendships. Social networking spreads unreliable and false information. “49.1% of people have heard false news via social media” (Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society)? When spreading unreliable information, a person has to arrange what they think and address it. Social networking causes problems in relationships, “15% of adult social network users had an experience on a social networking site that caused a friendship to end” (Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society)? When users spread false information others look at what they posted and engage in it. This causes problems in relationships having them question what is accurate. People are quick to believe what they read online which is not always the correct information. This may end a relationship or friendship that is not worth the false information. Social networking sites lack privacy for users, “13 million users said they had not set or did not know about Facebook's privacy settings and 28% shared all or nearly all of their posts publicly” (Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society)? This will be different for the world due to social networking being a huge part of our world today. Policies are no help for social networking but you can do something about it and help the life of social networking.
