The story of Beowulf is one of, if not the most, popular, Norse myths of all time, mainly because most of them were destroyed. A story about bravery and self identity, a favorite among many. It has been translated many many times, thus being the problem, nobody knows the true story, the way it was told the first time or the time after that, was he really a leader, did he really fight Grendel 's mother, was he even a man? Okay, some of those questions may be a little extreme but no one really knows how the story truly went unless they were there when it was being told and if they were there, that is if it actually happened. Later, Beowulf tells Finn to kill him but he doesn’t and Beowulf then says “In a way you can 't kill me, my friend, 'cause I died many, many years ago when I was young.” This was the climax of this scene. It was so overwhelmingly emotional and depressing. Beowulf is really hard on himself at this point in the movie. He doesn’t feel as if he is needed anymore and that he is useless to the people now. When he says this line, it is very intense, Finn is on his knees avoiding eye contact with the king and Beowulf has his weapon using it to lift Finn’s head so he is looking at him. Beowulf insists that the gods will not let him die and then he says that he can’t be killed because he died many years before. This can be taken in a few different ways: one, he is immortal and he can’t die because he is too busy saving other people. Two, God will not let him die because he doesn’t want to. Or three, he want’s to die but he can’t so he won’t. The way I took it was that he was already dead inside. Nothing can hurt him anymore because he already felt that pain, he felt it to the point he couldn’t feel anymore and therefore he’s
