When many of you hear about individuals being trafficked, the first thing that comes to your mind is sex trafficking or even slavery way back in the day, but many don’t really the laborers are being trafficking everyday all over the world. In many situations around the world, poor, struggling individuals are tricked into the belief that they will have a better life. Many people are, forced into slavery, or many there is servitude, or they are forced with threats. Many poorer communities are tricked into thinking they will have a better life and end up in harsh conditions with minimal pay and threatened to have their papers taken away. For example, a young poor man in a developing country might be told by a large farming company all these promises and make the man believe that he will be able to provide a better life for himself and his family, but when the man arrives, he is forced to works many hours and in harsh conditions. Many workers are promised homes and good pay, but then a huge portion of their pay will be taken away because of the homes. Another example is slavery. Many think of slavery as a thing that happened hundreds of years ago, but it is still happening in many countries around the world. In Africa, many workers are still forced into slavery for companies who provide a product that is every girls dream, but slaves nightmare. Diamonds are in serious demands and often result in very bad situations for communities around places thriving with diamonds that need to be mined. Some of the perspectives include, the workers being trafficked, the traffickers, people that lose their jobs to trafficked people, the government, and NGOs. Obviously, the workers being trafficked don’t want the life they are given, but it is most of the time better than the life they are living. They are the voice of the poor that unemployed by lack of employment opportunities. In the perspective of the individuals being trafficked, this is not what they want, but survival comes first. What about the perspective of the government whose citizens are being trafficked or their citizens are trafficking people. A great majority of government in many countries have laws in place that make trafficking, poor treatment of workers, and illegally importing workers illegal and place fines and jail time if violated. One reason that governments find this issue so important is because from their perspective trafficking equals an issue with taxes being paid to the government. The government also is looking out for the safety and rights of workers. The perspectives of NGOs or Non-governmental organizations also play a huge role in the global issue of human labor trafficking. These NGOs believe in the issue of human labor trafficking and want to aid and educate the community on the issue, but also come together with governments to work together. The trafficking of women and children can lead to lifelong health issues or could possibly have life threatening consequences. It can affect their social, emotional and mental wellbeing. When these women are trafficked into different countries they often travel in very poor conditions for example, if they travel by boat it can often lead to starvation, suffocating or possibly drowning in some cases. These young women and girls who are sexually exploited can be exposed to many other health risks such as HIV which can become life threatening if they are not treated which in many cases they are not.
