We can see from above how these women are marginalised and how by being marginalised this can affect their health and wellbeing. The trafficking of women and children can lead to lifelong health issues or could possibly have life threatening consequences. It can affect their social, emotional and mental wellbeing. When these women are trafficked into different countries they often travel in very poor conditions for example, if they travel by boat it can often lead to starvation, suffocating or possibly drowning in some cases. These young women and girls who are sexually exploited can be exposed to many other health risks such as HIV which can become life threatening if they are not treated which in many cases they are not. These young women suffer with huge mental health issues while being trafficked and also afterwards. These can be lifelong mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). They can also have trust issues which can affect them in later life when they are trying to build new relationships and many women also feel suicidal or attempt to commit suicide in worse cases (Themedicaldaily.com, 2015). As we can see from above trafficking has a major effect on the health and wellbeing of these young women and girls. It affects them socially emotionally and mentally. From doing my research I came across a few organisations in Ireland that help in the prevention of trafficking such as APT, Tirzah Ireland and stoptraffic.ie. However, I am going to focus on APT. I now understand how young women and girls can be and are trafficked in Ireland and in countries all over the world. I have found out how these young women are exploited and the effects that it has on them as people. I now know that these young women’s basic human rights and needs are not met and how they live in complete poverty. I then briefly mentioned how there is not a huge awareness of trafficking in Ireland and how trafficking is happening every day in Ireland and in the UK. I was shocked to see that trafficking is still occurring even in Ireland today and by how many young women are actually trafficked every year. I then explained the contemporary marginalisation of this group using feminist theory. Following that I spoke about how trafficking has a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of young women and girls and how these health issues can possibly be life threatening. Lastly, I then briefly mentioned the different organisations in Ireland that are there to help prevent trafficking however, I focused in on just one which was APT.
