Theater: Theater can be Part of Everyone’s Life

What is a theater? A theater is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to present

the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place. The performers may

communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and

dance. Elements of design and stagecraft are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of

the experience. There are 5 types of theater and these are drama,musical, comedy, tradgedy, and

improvisation. (Theater, 2014)

The Philippine Educational Theatre Assocation (PETA) was founded by Cecile- Guidote Alvarez

in 1967. The company has lived with the changes that have occurred within and around it. Through the

years, PETA continues to develop its breed of cultural leaders as it steps up to the forefront of Philippine

culture. PETA has written, translated, adapted, published, and performed more than 400 plays and has

facilitated thousands of workshops both locally and internationally, shaping not only its own history but

greatly influencing the history of Philippine theater as well. (About PETA, 2014)

Theaters are complex buildings, made up of any elements. These include dedicated spaces for its

many functions,both front house and backstage. A front house has 8 parts and these are, auditorium, seats,

boxes, proscenium arch, orchestra pit,lightning, sound, and control bar and the backstage serves as the

dressing area of the artists. (Types of Theatre)

Theater is fun and realistic. It is open for everyone even though you are a student, a worker, or
