Reflection On Isis

I believe one of the most critical issues we face today as a society is the terrorist attacks that ISIS has been executing for the past ten months now. These attacks in my opinion are the worst thing that is happening to the world at the moment because of the amount of lives that have been lost and sacrificed for this terrorist organization. As ISIS has gained more followers over the past months they have grown in power and have claimed provinces for example: Libya, Egypt, Nigeria, and others in the surrounding area. If we do not tackle this problem soon I think that the situation will get a lot worse and the United States and many other countries could be in serious danger. I think of power as knowledge, in the most recent speech I had watched was with a speaker that came to Iona. This man’s name was Kevin Powell, Mr. Powell had written a book on his life titled The Education of Kevin Powell. In Mr. Powell’s speech he asked the audience a question what does education mean to you? Now when I heard this question I pondered it for some time and honestly I came up with nothing so I decided to listen to what my fellow classmates had to say. One students answer was the one that stuck in my head the most which was “I believe education is knowledge and knowledge is power.” The way I think about Knowledge is that it is in fact power you have the power of knowing things and not just certain “things” but anything you want. I have used my power to learn how in fact ISIS operates: how they get their money, their following, and their land.
