Words are very powerful and depending on the person, they can be taken to heart or in the wrong way. The aphorisms, “I must be cruel, only to be kind” and “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle” are both very true statements. Deciding which aphorism to act upon depends on the situation, because different people take things different ways. These aphorisms make you stop and think about when you need to be brutally honest, when it depends on the person’s personality how to act, or when you just need to be nice to them no matter what. Words have a strong effect on people and can really hurt someone.
My mom is kind of a bigger lady, so there are clothes that compliment her body type better than others do. When we go clothing shopping for her, I have to tell her that certain clothes do not look too great with her body shape. I am telling her that something does not look good, which can be taken rudely sometimes, but it is a good thing for me to be doing. So in this case the aphorism, “I must be cruel, only to be kind” is the best fit, because I do not want her to get clothes that do not flatter her body type. I want her to look good and feel great about herself. Sometimes it is good to be brutally honest.

A couple of weeks ago, some of my teammates got into a pretty rough car wreck. They all came out of it with concussions and a few other nicks and bruises, so their emotions were all over the place.
