A. Hook: Day after day students have to drag themselves out of bed extremely early in order to make it to school. As students get older, schools start earlier and earlier and make students more exhausted than ever.
B. problem: Schools all around the country start before the recommended time of 8:30 AM. Starting school so early takes a toll on adolescent’s health, sleep schedules, and concentration, which can result in poor academic achievement and safety issues.
C. Claim: High schools around the country should push back their school start times in order to provide safe and healthy conditions for students and boost their academic performance.

Again, delaying school start times will help with waking up students because as light appears melatonin is delayed in the body. Keeping a regular sleep schedule and getting quality sleep will help students perform at their best.
D. There will be teen car crashes no matter what, but with later starts and more alertness crashes could drop quite drastically. Earlier starts correlate to more crashes, so if schools start later there most likely will be fewer crashes.

A. Counter-argument #1 - Starting schools later could affect transportation and how students get to school.

Rebuttal to counter-argument #1 -However according to the national sleep foundation, One solution that has worked to solve this problem is flipping start times, most commonly elementary with high school. This solution requires no extra buses or drivers, just a change in the order of pickups. This schedule also seems to be more appropriate to elementary school students’ sleep schedules, because young children tend to wake up earlier in the morning.
