Introduction Have you ever looked at the 104 days of summer vacation we have, and thought to yourself “What is the best way to spend it?” Usually, the first thing that comes to your mind after the heat of the first summer day is visiting a pool. One thing that often goes unchecked, by the average pool goer, is the state of hygiene and the safety of the pools they visit. In knowing that during one day of operation, over 100 people bathe in that pool, intuition suggests that a substantial amount of external contaminants are introduced into the pool’s system such as, bodily fluids, fecal matter, pathogens, and other contaminants. Concerns have been brought up by many students, who have used Southern Polytechnic State University’s (SPSU) pool facilities, in regards to its actual state of hygiene and safety. This recommendation report was composed to highlight the research that was done to investigate pertinent codes and regulations in comparison with the current state of the pool facilities at SPSU. Our research was divided into two focuses conducted by separate teams; the first of which is conducting physical research at the SPSU pool, while the other would conduct research on Federal, State, and local regulations. Physical research encompassed various aspects of SPSU's facilities to gather sufficient data and report on the pool’s current state of operations. The other team’s goal was to research and compile data on the pool area’s current legal regulations and safety standards. Problem Description As swimming became a popular activity, the convenience of a facility that can function year round became necessary. As a result indoor pools were constructed to solve the problem encountered by outdoor pools of being inoperable... ... middle of paper ... ... be more thorough, but their labor would also be more expensive. This paper will show how the facility will continue to stay abreast of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The paper will also take a look at the activities and the frequency of training and audits that the hospital will conduct throughout the year. This paper will address the possibility of the fines the hospital has received and what causes the fines. The OSHA is an organization that provides a safe work environment for all staff members.
I have done an extensive search on the internet finding much of your needed information for the upcoming OSHA audit. You should find it helpful in answering all of the questions you had. I have attached the first page of every website in case you would like to check them out in more detail.
It is imperative that domestic water provided for direct consumption and ingestion through food must be sanitary. Scientific research indicates that as many as 19 million Americans may become ill each year due to parasites, viruses a...
To achieve this great tan one must sign up for the three-week course that the YMCA offers for $100. During the three-week course, you learn how to spot potential victims and accidents. You will also learn how to communicate with pool patrons who have lost their children and those who are breaking the rules. Not, only do they teach you how to watch the pool, but they teach you about skin safety. You learn about which hours are the worst times to be out in the sun and how much SPF to use during those times and how to inform patrons about sun skin safety. Its not all by the book; you will have to get into the water to show your swimming ability and practice techniques, such as how to enter the pool when someone has a spinal injury. Also you need to learn how to deal with victims who are in shock and ways to approach victims who are delusional. You will learn to be assertive with the rules, and when it is necessary to use your whistle. They teach you when to close the pool in emergencies and how it is appropriate to close the pool during thunderstorms. You will also learn to work as a team with your fellow guards, how to use the tube, and the correct ways to clean out the pool with the vacuum.
Aquatic therapy can be received in traditional outpatient rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and sports medicine clinics. Aquatic therapy is accessible in facilities that have a full-size or therapeutic-size pool (Human Kinetics, n.d.).
Three Medical Doctors wrote the book, The Water We Drink: Water Quality and Its Effects on Health. Their names are Joshua I. Barzilay, M.D., Winkler G. Weinberg, M.D., and J. William Eley, M.D. In order to put the issue of drinking water quality and its effects on health into perspective, the book is divided into three parts. It first reviews the history of water, disease, and sanitation. The next section deals with health issues. At the conclusion of the book are chapters regarding bottled water and methods of purification. The intent of the book is to educate consumers.
The problem of not having clean drinking water has led to many diseases in America. In Gleick’s academic journal titled ...
Major efforts have been taken to protect the health of humans from contaminated water during recreation, especially swimming. For many years, waters have been tested for certain types of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) – bacteria commonly found in human and animal feces. While FIB generally do not cause human disease, FIB in the water may indicate the presence of feces and associated pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and protozoans – organisms and agents which have also been found ...
One balmy summer morning my friends convinced me to come swim in Grapevine Lake, which would be very enticing if I was a strong swimmer or had any swimming experience whatsoever. However, I’m not going to ruin a good, scorching summer day staying home wasting my time playing video
It affects the sports club because it has a swimming pool, so the chlorine levels in the water are controlled well so that nobody can be harmed that is why the statutory law is there.
Presently scientist are conducting research to help people gain new techniques in swimming. While scientists continue research for new swimming techniques, they must start with early techniques of swimming as a sport and part of life. Learning how to swim is not easy. However, swimming is physics. There are laws, buoyancy, drags, and motions. To become a good swimmer one should take initiative to learn how certain techniques evolved and take an active approach into applying these physics into their own strokes. This report will state a brief summary of the physics of swimming and its mechanics and then continue by describing the technique of the freestyle and backstrokes.
Regulation compliance, employee safety, fire safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste removal, training procedures, and management relations are samples of features taken into consideration during a Safety Major’s day. Though there are numerous specializations safety professions can choose, a base knowledge in all fields is essential for a successful career. Therefore, I intend to pursue a continuation of safety certifications that will demonstrate a persistent ability to learn about my career. For the initial duration of my profession, I hope to obtain an Environmental Health and Safety specialist entry level position for an established organization. If the opportunity arises, I will promote within the same organization until
The RNAO states “World Health Organization data suggests that environmental factors account for 24 per cent of the world’s burden of disease and 23 per cent of all deaths” (2012). Environmental determinants of health is mainly centered on whether not the area has clean air and water. This is because air and water are used in every person’s daily life, and if these are contaminated, the health of these persons can be compromised. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the records dating back from 2005 show that the water is safe for all persons, with no pollutants causing illnesses or diseases (Air System Facilities, 2015). In addition, the agency tested the water to see if it had any abnormal microbial levels. In the area there were no disinfectants or pollutants compromising the water. To further determine the environmental determinants, the air was also researched. Today, on September 11, 2015 the UV index was considered to be very high. The agency states “Protection against sun damage is needed” (UV Index, 2015). Since the UV index ranked to be in the very high category, people in this area need to take caution and were sun screen if outdoors. It is recommended that people stay in cool, air conditioned facilities between 1 pm and 4 pm. To continue, the AFS showed that there are no facilities producing air emissions (Air System Facilities, 2015). When there are no facilities producing air

...he summer time when it gets warmer out and everyone goes to the pools. Swimming is a way to get away from the heat of those humid summer days, while still being active and enjoying your friends/family and the sun. Going out with the family to the pool is a great bonding experience, and is a great way to fight obesity in children.
