Evolution of Social Media Social media is known around the entire world, whether it is used or not, it is very well known. Social media is a very large part of today’s society in many different ways, as by many different people. Whether it is brought through in the classroom, or just sitting on a couch, it is one of the most popular ways to kill time as well as learn. Studies have shown that even older generations have become very fond of social media, and have come to depend on it more and more as the days go by. Statistics show that the “golden era” of social media started in 2001, and continues to improve and increase to this day. Social media came into my life during my middle school years. In today’s society it does not really matter what age a person is, or where they live in the world, social media will most likely be a part of their life in some way or another. To begin with the good impacts social media has given us, one big factor is that social media gives us information almost immediately when we need it. With so much information being put online through social media, through blogs, and through social media apps on phones, the amount of access and information that can be reached at a fast pace is a large amount. There is not a lack of information because of the amount of sources that is open for everyone across the world to use. A great example given in an article on Business 2 Company, Tommy Landry writes about his attraction to Twitter right away because of activity happening across the country that he was able to follow each and every step of the way. When the government was after Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, there was a citizen that was live tweeting the events that were taking place and his opinion/reaction to all of it.
