Social media dominates and controls the lives of youths, while education has become more important and more pressure and higher expectations are laid upon students. Cyberbullying, privacy risk and identity theft also all cause significant issues among teenagers.

The film Nowhere Boy, based on John Lennon’s adolescence, could be used to support. Lennon’s family life was extensively broken and defected, living with his aunt and uncle Mimi and George Smith. The loss of his uncle resulted in Lennon seeking out his mother, who had abandoned the family. This type of dysfunctionality is very evident today, with divorces and separations happening often and usually having a major effect on adolescents involved in them. However, this is far more evident in today’s society, with couples marrying young, usually as a result of rash thinking or unwanted pregnancies. In the 80s and especially the 60s, marriages were valued more as a lifetime unity, with people still having a religious mindset and divorces were very rare. Therefore, John Lennon’s situation is an example of a special case and doesn’t reflect the era as a whole.
