Analysis of John Singleton's Film Boyz N the Hood

The director and screenwriter of the 'Boyz N the Hood.' John Daniel

Singleton. The 34 year director, who was born January 6, 1968, in Los

Angeles, CA. This black African-American director who won several

awards as a screenwriting students at USC. Singleton's assured a

directorial debut, Boyz N the Hood. An urgent, powerful coming-of-age

tale, the film found a spark of hope amid its bleak, violence-ridden

south central Los Angeles setting and become one the top-grossing

feature ever made by a black filmmaker, because singleton was the

screenwriter this film really reflects his ideas and preoccupations.

The story that singleton is get through to us is about, the mother of

Tre styles (Desi Arnez Hines II) in Boyz N the Hood, think that it is

best for the Tre to live with his father Furious styles (Larry

Fishburne,) so he can teach him how to be a man. As he grows into his

teens, his best friends are half-brother, one an athlete, the other

drifting into drugs and alcohol. They've know each others for years -

and have steered clear, more or less, of the gangs the operate in the

neighbourhood. They have gone there own ways. But there is always the

possibility that words turn to insults, that insult will lead a need

to 'prove their manhood.' Somebody will be shot.

The main and central character if Tre styles, son of Furious styles.

Who is a clever boy, but has a quick temper after making a promise to

his mother, Brenda not to fight in school and breaking this promise

would mean that he would have to live with his father. So his father

...is some mise-en-scene of location in the first twenty five

minutes like in the alley away were the shot took place the night we

see poster of a the president of USA (Ronald Regan,) he was a gun

friendly president which show that this area there is a lot of guns on

the street. There are many connotation used in the First Twenty-five

like the one-way sign when the children are cross in the street,

showing that there all heading the same way I this neighbourhood which

in jail or been killed (probably by a black man,) also we see a STOP

sign and aeroplane, singleton is showing he want people to stop this

tragedy and the aeroplane shows people escaping from these areas'.

There is not just a main theme to this film, but there are many themes

such as black on black violence, education, responsibility and

attitudes to women.
