Some of my preconceived notions were that Spanish culture prohibits children entering preschool programs which contributed to academic and social delays. A native language interferes with the target language and learning two languages in early childhood would overwhelm confuse and or delay acquisition of English. Since schools don’t have the capacity to provide instructions and all language all ESL students should be immersed in English only instruction to acquire English language. Not ESL students should acquire basic oral language skills before moving on to more complex literacy skills. As a result of completing an internship with ESL teachers some of my preconceptions have been modified and refuted.

Conceptions can interact student learning because we teach through the lens that we see students in. As a teacher I must take a critical analysis of my values and belief and sift through them appropriately so I do not reject my values and beliefs on to somebody else that may cause misinterpretation of understanding. In order to being effective teacher and must modify and accommodate instructional strategies in my approach to teaching all of my students. Teaching in a culturally inland with thick diverse classroom can be challenging to their multitude of resources that teachers can use to become culturally responsive competent teachers.
