I want to be a pharmacist because pharmacists can share their knowledge in medicine to help patients in treating symptoms and stabilizing pre-existing medical conditions. My immediate goals are to take a more active role in the pharmaceutical profession through club involvement and volunteer opportunities. In the future, I want to provide easily accessible and valuable information on over the counter and prescription medication to the public as a licensed pharmacist. I believe my persistence in overcoming failure and experience in restaurant hospitality will help me succeed in pharmacy school as well as becoming a pharmacist. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, and volunteering at the pharmacy department of The Whittier Hospital Medical Center in Whittier, California. The Association of Pre-Pharmacy Learners & Educators (APPLE) Club focuses on providing resources and assistance to students interested in attending pharmacy school. As Vice President of the club, I coordinated with the president to ask local Pharmacy schools such as Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, California and Western University in Pomona, California to give talks at the club meetings. These talks gave our members an idea of the dedication, excellence and focus expected from students of pharmacy. The speakers gave us insight on various areas pharmacists can work and important advice on applying to pharmacy schools. As vice president, I also assist other officers with their responsibilities such as organizing fundraisers, taking down meeting minutes, and making flyers for the club. The APPLE club also provided me with the opportunity to volunteer at the pharmacy department of Whittier Hospital starting from February 2016. I 've acquired a great amount of patience in regards to communicating with hostile individuals in my five years of customer service experience. I address starving guests who wait up to two hours to be sat on a regular basis. These customers are similar to patients who are often in pain but still have to wait for their medication. The patience I have developed will help me look past the hostility and sympathize with the patients who are in pain. Another valuable skill I 've developed is how to work in a team efficiently. The restaurant environment relies heavily on the cooperation of the workers to maintain a smooth workflow. The host strategically seats the guests to maximize capacity and alerts the servers on arriving or finishing tables. The servers tend to the guests and makes sure their food is on the way to cut down waiting time for arriving guests. The busboys help the servers and prepare the tables for incoming guests. Without the hosts, the seating will not be used to its maximum capacity. Without the servers or busboys, the guest will not be tended to which will result in longer wait time. The arriving guests will become impatient and the restaurant will be in chaos. These roles in the restaurant are similar to those in healthcare.
