The role of an effective leader can hold several different positions. A leader should take in account the followers and value their opinions and work together to reach a specific goal. A group of people working together becomes a team and teamwork is a valuable asset to any organization. This paper will discuss the importance of teamwork and how management plays a role in the development of a good team. This paper will address the effectiveness of a management team, as well as the effectiveness of a manager over a team.
The Management Team The management team in the case of “The Chattanooga Ice Cream Division” was not a team that seemed to be effective in making decisions or supporting each other. The team had a lack of communication with one another and this led to a breakdown with knowing the true state of despair the company was in. The managers failed to introduce a significant plan that would help the outcome with the ice cream division. The main reason seemed to stem from the negative atmosphere in the group. They questioned Charlie Moore’s integrity and his loyalty to the company. The management group had many traits that would categorize this management team as a negative group one example would be an ego tripper like the division sale’s manager Les Holly, who was critical and blamed everyone. The ego tripper demands attention and tries to feel important by making others look bad. Another example would be a negative artist who rejects any idea that another person suggest (Bethel University, 2011).The vice-president& controller Stephanie Crane would fall into the description she disliked everyone’s idea but her own.
