During my observation hours, I watched two movies named Remember the Titans and Higher Learning. In Remember the Titans, Just before the state semi-finals, Yoast is told by a member of the school board that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame after the Titans lose one game, implying he wants Boone to be fired over his race. During the game, it becomes apparent that the referees are biased against the Titans. Yoast warns the head official that he will go to the press and expose the scandal unless it is refereed fairly. The Titans win, but Yoast is told that his actions have resulted in his loss of candidacy for induction. My initial reaction was “you have to be kidding me”. I felt like I could not live in a time where blacks and white did not get along. It is shocking to see a coach lose his candidacy because he wanted his team to be successful. This event is bad because they are penalizing the team because of the color of their coach’s skin. My future expectation is all people should share a common humanity and therefore should have a right to unbiased treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources. Ultimately, the definition of race is based solely on personal wishes, feelings, or perceptions, rather than on objective facts, reasons, or principles. The definition also does not mean that any race has an exclusive ownership of any difference of a gene. Nonetheless, race is a cultural concept. The expressions “black” and “white” do not represent biological species.
In Remember the Titans, Scott chastises Remy for dropping out of school, arguing that the white community needs more successful members and that he is betraying his race. After Knocko calls out a racial slur, Fudge, Malik, Dr...

...tuation at a ceremony in middle school. We lived in West Palm beach, Florida, however we had to go to school almost an hour away from home. The school was predominately white, however the students weren’t racist. At the ceremony, we were talking to our friends, some were white and some even Hispanic. We began to notice a few of the Caucasian parents looking at us differently. We knew there was a problem once our Caucasian friends were told to come sit with their families. Ultimately, the Caucasian students saw nothing wrong with having African American or Hispanic friends, however the parents of the Caucasian did not like it. Ultimately, my future expectations are all race should not be judged before getting to know one another. We should take positive steps to end discrimination, to prevent its recurrence, and to create new opportunities that were previously denied.
