The regulation of eating behaviors has been proven by research to relate to the strength of temptation or desire. There have been several studies conducted in order to understand the relationship temptation has with eating behaviors. One study in particular investigated the correlation between temptation and snack intake (citation). The data collected from the study was used to determine how controlling temptation reduces the urge of indulging in unhealthy foods. During the study temptation, hunger and motivation were a few of the key components analyzed. Test subjects participated in a taste test in which they had been presented with four bowls of pre weighed unhealthy snacks. They were told they had ten minutes to taste as much food as they needed in order to reach an accurate rating of the foods. At the end of the taste test the bowls were reweighed in order to measure how much each participant had consumed. Also, following the taste test participants were asked to rate their level of temptation to eat each of the foods presented in the experiment and their level of hunger. The results produced from the study showed there was a positive correlation between temptation and snake intake. Wansink and his team of researchers have studied “how the environment leads--or even tricks--people into eating food”. Their research suggests that factors such as, what the food is called, the size or shape of the dish being used, how close the food is and who is serving it determines the amount a person will consume
