Persuasive Speech: H. 4482
I. Attention:
I remember when I was in high school I would wake up every morning dreading the thought of “what am I going to wear today?” I remember seeing girls in school who would always have new clothes and I would wish of a wardrobe with name brand clothes. With my parents having three daughters in school who didn’t require uniform I could just imagine the nightmare it was for them to have to take three girls shopping all the time.

II. Credibility:
I am not stating that enforcing school uniforms will get rid of all problems a school has but I do know for a fact that schools who don’t enforce it have more problems and school who enforce have less problems to worry about.

III. Relevance:
I believe this affects everyone because at the end of the day we all want to be successful and this is a way of bettering education. We might not be in grade school anymore where this affects but I’m sure we all have kids, cousins, nephews, nieces, etc. which this affects.

IV: Topic Disclosure:
Today I am going to talk to you about bill H. 4482 in South Carolina which is to amend the code of laws by adding section 59-63-63 so that the state department of education shall establish and enforce a statewide mandatory dress code requiring school uniforms to be worn in public schools by students beginning 2016-2017 school year.

Preview: During my speech I will discuss:
I. How not wearing uniform affects students
II. How school uniforms will better education and better students
III. The possible benefits wearing uniforms will bring.

I. Need:
According to About Education 2014, “every school is in essence a learning environment. That which aids learning is acceptable, and that which hinders it shoul...

...lked to you about:
I. How not wearing uniform affects students
II. How school uniforms will better education and better students
III. The possible benefits wearing uniforms will bring.

III. Action:
I know this might not sound important to us because it’s in South Carolina, but why not get rid of unnecessary problems and if not decrease them. Why not make a change who might later on be proposed in California? The point is to start something. I hope if this catches your attention to look into this bill, get I contact with the Education and Public Works and let them know we agree.

IV. Return to Intro:
With changing the school code to school uniforms schools would be more focused on education rather than other people, students’ self-esteem would be higher and parents wouldn’t have to spend so much money on name brand clothes in order for their children to fit in.

Arguments for School Dress Codes Essay

- Ensuing President Bill Clinton's State of the Union address in January of 1996, more and more public schools are implementing dress codes and uniform policies in their schools. As a result, there has been an increase in legal controversies dealing with the issue. The reason that dress codes are not conclusively enforced is due to the application of the First Amendment to juveniles in the public school setting. The First Amendment states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redr...   [tags: Argumentative, Persuasive]

In other words, school uniforms direct attention to learning and give a general sense of belonging, as everyone looks the same to some degree. Allison Torres Burtka also suggests that if a school were to implement a school dress code, then the contrast of lower class, middle class, and higher class citizens would not be as apparent (Burtka). A Persuasive Essay Against School Uniforms

- High school is typically a time when kids begin to distinguish themselves from one another. Students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both fit in and stand out simultaneously. Being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and outward appearance as the means to manifest this individuality. Thus, students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven deterrents to student violence; are a "Band-Aid" to cover up the real problems faced by children and teens; and they violate students' right of self-expression, depriving them of their search for identity...   [tags: School Uniforms Argumentative]

Should School Uniforms Be Mandatory? Essay

- Do people really have freedom. Freedom of speech. Freedom to wear what they want. When people go to certain jobs they have to wear a uniform or a suit. This is also true in school. Some schools make students wear uniforms. Although some people may say that school uniforms help prevent kids from spending time picking out their clothes in the morning, they are wrong because kids will just have fits and not want to put on their uniform because it is not comfortable. There should not be school uniforms because there is evidence that it lowers academic scores, restricts students ' freedom of expression, causes a higher percent of violence at school, and promotes conformity over individuality....   [tags: High school, Education, Dress code, Uniforms]

Essay about In Consideration of School Uniforms

- School Uniforms A group of small boys and girls all wearing the same colored school uniforms assembled in front of a catholic school is what I imagine when thinking about school uniforms. This is probably what most people imagine. They have been attached to students of European and private schools. Such pictures of students dressing in school uniforms have led to stereotyping and a negative attitude towards schools enforcing a uniform policy.
