Overall, I think that my teaching team and I were able to cooperate well, and create a unit about time that was successful. We were able to challenge the students, while still making sure that the activities and objectives were attainable. We created a unite based on time concepts including elapsed time, time to the minute, time zones, and word problems. The students had a lot of prior knowledge based on our pre-assessment, and we decided to challenge them with new concepts related to time. The students were able to grow as learners and develop their skills and knowledge about time throughout this unit. They were able to apply skills regarding each time concept in each lesson, because each concept is interrelated. After teaching the entire …show more content…
Through being able to teach an entire class, my confidence as an educator has definitely increased. I was able to experience what it is like plan lessons for and manage an entire class of twenty-two third graders. I have been able to learn how to manage students and create lessons that are differentiated. I was able to create lesson that meet the needs of a wide range of learners, and practice strategies to deliver instruction in way that allows students to be successful. I have found that I am capable of managing behaviors and creating lessons to help students reach each lesson objective. Differentiating lessons to meet the needs of all students is extremely important, because not all student learn in the same way. I have also learned about the importance of making sure to plan enough activities, and manage time effectively. Since students in this class were on many different levels, I learned the importance of have back-up activities planned for student who are more advanced, as well as modified activities for students who might struggle. I have found that it is better to over plan, than to under plan. Additionally, through creating this unit on time, I was able to experience the importance of learning to collaborate with peers and fellow teachers. I have only ever taught with two other teach candidates, so collaborating with 4 others was an interesting experience. We needed to learn how to work together and adjust to one another’s styles. We used each other strengths and weaknesses to work together and create lessons to help students successfully reach their learning objectives. I have learned the importance of collaborating with peers, and the benefits that it can
This reflective essay will lay emphasis on one of the learning needs I have developed during my two week taster placement in hospital. Reflection helps an individual build upon their skills and makes room for self-criticism as he or she can contemplate upon actions and make relevant changes (Taylor, 2000). I will be applying the “What”, “So what” and “Now what” model of reflection by Driscoll (2000) in this piece of work because it is a more coherent and comprehensible approach to follow when writing a reflective account and is also an easier guide to writing reflections. The learning need I chose to reflect on from my learning plan is having a better understanding of diabetes and the 6 basic medications used in treating the condition since it is a common illness on the ward I am have been allocated on for my first placement. The timescale set for achieving this objective was by the end of my two week placement that is from 27th January to 9th February and I achieved it with the help of a host of factors. In this assignment, all the names of the patients and wards have been omitted and indicated with letters and numbers for confidentiality reasons as stated in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct (2008). The paper will primarily touch on the type 2 diabetes and furthermore on the achievement on my learning need.
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
During the early years, children go through crucial development stages, and continuous, quality early childhood education can have a lasting, valuable effect on the overall development of children. High-quality early childhood development programs that offer developmentally adequate curricula, allow children to formulate specified cognitive skills at the suitable age. Developmentally adequate curricula assist in the development of cognitive skills which help them acquire new skills and knowledge. Preschool provides children the opportunities to take part in activities they wouldn’t typically do at home such as arts and crafts, science activities, sand and water play and music and movement. These activities can enhance children's’ lives, increase their development and supply them with the tools they need for the future.

Junior Achievement offered me the opportunity to experience first-hand teaching through my first education course. I taught a fourth grade classroom and I was teaching Junior achievement’s “My Region: Entrepreneurship. Each lesson focused on entrepreneurship, business, and what is takes or business to succeed. I was able to learn and teach through the curriculum and lesson plans that were already made and sorted out for me to use which helped in preparation for teaching. Not only did I learn for my experience teaching in a real classroom but I also learned from the students I taught. The students were giving me feedback through telling me that they enjoyed an activity or did not; and some students would speak through body language. If a lesson
I have been able to observe and learn from my collaborative teacher and paraprofessional on how to manage a classroom and keep a positive learning environment.
We spoke about the children in the classroom who have personalities and learning styles that are unique to them. Building a relationship with each child, gives her the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge to create lesson plans that are relatable to their personalities and learning styles. Her association with the children impacts their feelings of safety and security which relates to their ability to interact and learn in the classroom. Another advantage my cooperating teacher spoke about is the fact she has known many of the children since they were babies. She has witnessed them grow, develop personalities, and learning
Lesson preparation was far more arduous than anything I had anticipated, and I have a much greater respect for teachers and their ability to critique and re-critique their lessons over the years. There are numerous elements to take into account. How many students do I have? What are their personality types? Do I have any students with disabilities? How old are they? How far are we in the unit? What did we do last lesson? What will I do during the next lesson? The questions are endless! I love having peers and friends in the same work field that I can have review my
Within Frankenstein is a world divided between the egotistical ideas of a mad man and the monster that is created through his insanity: in Lacanian terms, between the Symbolic and the Imaginary Orders. According to Lacan, “the Imaginary [is a] field of images and imagination, and deception” (Wikepedia.org ); Victor’s imagination being reflected solely on the monster that is created by his own guilty hands. To Victor, his creation reflects the idea and ego that cultivate through him, it is the spark that takes the ordinary and turns him into the “alienated.”
A lot of students benefit from structure, and we were able to do this in our lessons, especially the second. We learned from some mistakes in the first lesson and did things like display the groups on the smartboard, use the timer more, and have more positive attitudes. Our demeanor, actions, and reactions have proven to have an impact on the classroom environment and individual students. My group and I will make sure to be aware of these different factors while teacher our future lessons, and continue to improve upon
In the beginning I was hesitant of having four first graders working together to decide and agree on five items. While walking around and checking in with the groups I realized the students were working together and were talking through the ideas together. I thought this aspect of the lesson was a success because the students are in groups of higher-level students and lower-level students, as I walked around I heard the lower level students explaining their thinking and teaching the higher-level
This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. The students see the results of these seeds planted under these conditions for the past week. Two plants in particular have already been grown their growth has been
In my classroom I want to focus on getting my children prepared for independence and the life that lies ahead of them. Many of the students will come to me with no prior classroom experience, and it will be my job to teach them that. They will get into stuff, wander off, zone out, and act out. I will create many shorter lessons that are straight and to the point, yet still entertaining and exciting. I will try to focus these lessons on each student as an individual and put them in the hot seat to take on their learning in their own hands. Some days will be harder than others; however, each day will be a valuable learning experience not only for the students, but for me as
This gave me insight to how I should sort of look at the field experience during this class. I needed to get into the students role and see how they go throughout their day to understand how each student is so different. I also needed to get into the teachers position and see how they handled such diversity in the classroom because each child is their own person. This really made me think of how I should handle my classroom when I reach this point in my life. One more source that touched on the topic of the classroom helped me also to see how I need to look at the management of my classroom. “In order to make good decisions about classroom organization and management, teachers need to understand the role of culture in human development and schooling.”(Rothstein-Fisch, Carrie, Trumbull, Elise, 2006, p 1). This is completely true and it was very apparent in the pre-kindergarten classroom that my observation hours took place in. The teachers were well aware of each of the children’s needs and backgrounds and were able to respond effectively to each of the
As a class we went over what we observed at Fairview elementary. As everyone spoke of their classrooms and the teachers that they observed there was a wide variety of experiences. They ranged from “this teach was just no good, and didn’t seem to care about her student at all!” all the way to, “Well my teacher was fantastic and did a good job of maintaining order and the kids seem very interested in what the teacher was teaching”. I shared my experience and how it was a positive one and I learned a lot about creating a good lesson plan and also the logistics of maintaining class order.
