Beauty is within the eye of the beholder. Or is it? That's what they expect us to believe when portraying television shows, ads, and commercials. Media has been corrupting our societies for countless years. And nothing is done about it simply because it's to some people's benefits to have hit television shows or a famous ad, no matter what the content is. The most well known and obvious for of corruption that the people get from media is the effect it has on consumerism. most of the commercials and ads on TV, which air during the breaks of your favorite TV shows, promote brands and buying things that are not needed. Things that would make someone the envy of the whole neighborhood, Luxuries that would make almost anyone feel superior to everybody else. And that is exactly what the human nature is bounded by, superiority, fame, power and wealth. The owners of media industries claim that it's business and it's good for the economy. But is a good economy worth corrupting one of the variables that it depends on, society in this case. Consumerism is when people are incited or promoted into buying material object they may or may not have, regardless if they do, because nowadays all that is heard on TV or the radio or in ads, is that "newer is better". Every year a new phone comes out, and then a new car, and then a new "in Style" version of your shoes. Where does it end? it doesn't actually it goes on and on until they bleed you dry. At times people realize that they're buying the same phone every year but with the new year stamped on the top of it so what they do to spice up the sales a little is they take the peoples favorite idols and pay them to air on said commercial and ads or even shows, wearing using, or simply referring to a b... ... middle of paper ... ...ovies and commercials. But even though media can prove useful to society in certain ways and it is essential nowadays to people’s lives, it causes more damage than it does good in the long run. Like would it be better to have a good economy with a moral people now and later on have a good economy with psychologically distorted people, or to always have a balance between the two? A good economy is useless to a society of people that kill each other and riot due to the ideas fed to them to build that economy. Media has been corrupting our societies and mostly our youth for countless years. Few can see what is really going on and that’s dangerous for later on. To stay quiet and not act on informing the people is just as bad as standing on the side of corruption. People need to see life for what it really is its more than women, luxuries, and fictional TV shows. . .
