Stress is everywhere. It is at school, at home, at work, and even with friends. Whether external forces and or internal conflict cause it, much of the time, stress has a negative impact on a person and needs to be managed. However, there are times when it can have a positive effect, such as improving productivity. Creating a balance in one’s life is the key to leading a healthy and productive lifestyle. If the balance is not present, there can be negative consequences
physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Stress is pressure or tension exerted on a material object. (“Stress”) Stress can be caused by situations that make someone feel pressured, making life choices, going to college, buying a house and more. Stress can also happen when a person feels threatened or when something dramatic happens in their life. ("What is stress?") What causes stress is different for every person and usually depends on one's perception of what is happening.
Physical stress is often the heart of the problem. If one does not try to reduce his or her physical stress and try to eliminate it, the negative physical stress can cause many problems. Stress is a physical response to negative events that happen in someone’s life. "The body's stress response can increase your strength and stamina, speed your reaction time. And enhance your focus-preparing you to either fight or flee..." ("Stress") Too much stress can turn into negative physical stress, which can lead to terrible things happening. According to the American Psychological Association, "more than 94% of adults believe that stress can contribute to the development of major illnesses." Stress is constantly in ones life. It can be caused inner conflict or by something that happens around you. Too much negative stress for one, can hurt you, physically, emotionally, and mentally. At times stress has a positive impact on one and causes them to lead a productive lifestyle and the drive to perform better. Finding the correct balance between a productive and healthy lifestyle is crucial in ones life.

Stress, as defined as a reaction to a stimulus that breaks our physical and mental harmony, is ubiquitous. However, stress has two sides – the bad and the good, in which the latter is mostly overlooked as most people suffer from the affliction of the former.
Life is full of obstacles and has shown people that stress is very common and a part of life. When you are running around all the time like you are in an emergency mode, your body will pay the price. Stress is a constant burden, and can be detrimental to one’s physical and mental health. Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
Stress is an ongoing dilemma that occurs in each and everyone’s life. It is a factor that is undoubtedly a part of daily living. Due to the trivial problems that occur in people’s daily lives massive amounts of stress can arise. People perceive and manage stress in many different ways. The causes and effects of stress are numerous and one’s ability to manage stress is vital in maintaining healthy living.
Stress has various effects on the body, both psychological and physiological. Stress can have positive effects on the body and can be beneficial, but frequent stress will eventually cause negative effects on the body.

The words “stress” is something all of us have experienced but it seems that there are many different definitions used by psychologist, medics, management consultants or others. Stress can be divided into four types which are eustress, acute stress, episodic acute stress and chronic stress (illustrated in Figure 1).
