It has always been my goal to make a difference in the lives within my community. When I was eight years old, I lost my dad to unexpected, but natural, causes. This became a critical point in my life because I was forced to relearn how to conquer every task without my best friend, my father, in the picture. He said as long as I tried my hardest in everything I do that he would always be proud. I still cling to that thought. The trials that I went through as a result of my dad’s death made me realize early on that there were other people struggling like I was. I spent my senior year of high school as a full time dual enrolled student at Augusta University. This is when I took the introduction to political science class with Dr. Albert. This class truly fueled my passion for learning about government and inspired me to pursue an undergraduate degree in political science. I also participated in the 2016 Model United Nations in New York, as a delegate representing Somalia for Augusta University. My partner and I received an award for our position paper that we submitted to the conference. During my first semester as a junior in college, I was able to take the research class for political science with Dr. Ribando. I researched political behavior among people between the ages of 18 and 24. I was also able to present this research at the Georgia Political Science Association conference poster session. This class showed me just how passionate I am about studying the government, and how politics cause people to act. With a degree in public administration, I could further my research opportunities on the effects of policies. In the Spring of 2017, I am working with Dr. Ribando on another research project, and would love to continue this type of work in my professional
