Importance Of My Journey Into Teacher Education

As part of my journey into teacher education, I have been attending a local Church of England primary school. The class I am assisting in is a mixed year group class with Year one and year two children. The children are aged between five and seven years old. During my time at the school, the teacher has allowed me to play an active role in the class and I will be reflecting on these experiences. I will also discuss the use of the school’s behaviour policy. In addition, to conclude with my thoughts on my experience of attending the school for my placement.

I have fully enjoyed my time there. However, it has also made think about my original fears, that it is impossible as a teacher regardless of how competent you are to help every child feel confident in their abilities. Whether that is down to class sizes or the national curriculum, I am not sure. In addition, it could also be down to parents input at home, I would need to look into that further. However, I think I would properly feel discontent that I have done a good job, leaving at the end of the day and feeling a child has not learned from my lesson. However, this could be because I have a child their age and I am thinking as a parent rather than a professional. Nevertheless, my aim when I started this journey was to become a primary school teacher. I wanted to be able to give children confidence and enjoyment in their learning process. My own learning process has taught me that my personality is better suited to the emotional need of a child. Therefore. I feel I may be better suited to child welfare than children’s education.
My placement has been a valuable part of my access to teacher education course. I have really enjoyed my time in the classroom and have complete respect for the hard work teachers do on a daily basis. The experience has allowed me to understand and clarify my own objectives in pursuing a career of working with children.
