I’m trying to process my feelings and make sense of this loss. However, as I reflect back on our relationship, compatibility and the core of what made us, “us,” I find myself unable to accept this abrupt conclusion.
This is what I see when I break down the foundation into the three pegs of our relationship:
Our physical intimacy/passion is undeniably strong in, almost, every way. In this, our sex lives, our desires to do activities (sports, entertainment, food, ect.), and joy we feel while in each other’s company (love, respect, overall ebb and flow of being together and in each other’s space). This is where we click and everything just falls into place. In my opinion, most people in relationships can only say they connect on some of these things but not all and have to work considerably harder to maintain and make this functional. There is no comparison to how well you and I connect in this way and to others. We blow this out of the water!

This is a part of our relationship that has potential for growth and expansion, which we talk in-depth about. In fact, I think this is where we differ in thinking of how a relationship progresses. This is an area of our relationship that, I believe, we have a strong base to continue to build on, which will mold our relationship further. It is here that we will find our feelings grow or fade, leading us to a “wavelength” that suits us both or
Never become complacent and let my interpersonal relationship becomes stagnant, which can lead to resentment and conflict. Weighing the cost verses the rewards may not always be the solution for my relationship; simply, because the cost may ultimately outweigh the rewards. The need for autonomy can have reverse effects and may not lead to the closeness that’s expected. In, turn the very thing that, I try to be open about in my relationship can inadvertently cause me to protect my feelings in the
Interpersonal relationships can take many forms and develop from multiple different factors. For example, Pat Solitano and Tiffany Maxwell, two characters from the movie Silver Linings Playbook, seem to have developed consummate love – a combination of all three factors in Sternberg’s triangle of love theory, which are passion, intimacy, and commitment (Aronson, p. 390-91). Their relationship developed over the course of the movie, starting from a little passion or physical attractiveness, growing into a somewhat dysfunctional form of an exchange relationship with hints of jealousy as well as self-disclosure, into the consummate love that is seen at the end of the movie. The two characters start to develop intimacy, passion, and commitment
Fairy tales tell us that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Reality is not that simple. Long-term relationships force couples to get to know each other, involve themselves in each others’ worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop deeper connections as noted through distinctive stages of Knapp’s relationship model. Although I have dated the same person for over two years, our communication through relationship stages makes it seem as though I am now dating a different person than the one I met years ago. Following dissolution and subsequent repair, I realize the most exhilarating of roller coaster rides develop through sets of ups and downs, much like the stages on how our relationship is built.
Everybody grieves at the death of a loved one or close friends differently. The loss of somebody that was close to you is never an easy thing to get over. You never know how long somebody will be in your life. Death has no timetable, and you’ll never know when you or somebody will die. There’s a chance that I might not finish this essay, and theres a chance that I might not have a family, or a chance for me to live my life to the fullest but I have to live my life without letting that hold me back. How does somebody deal with the death of a family member or friend when their relationship ended on a bad note due to an argument? Elisabeth Kübler-Ross compliments matters further when she writes, “A husband and wife may have been fighting for years, but when the partner dies, the survivor will pull his hair, whine and cry louder and beat ...
According to an MSNBC survey, 53% of single people find a great smile to be the most attractive feature in a potential mate. Another percentage of single people surveyed that flattery is the best was to attract someone (Dating/Relationship Statistics). Psychologists at the University of Pennsylvania studied data from over 10,000 speed daters and found that most people make a decision regarding a person’s attraction within three seconds of meeting (Penn New ).
Relationships between two people can have a strong bond and through poetry can have an everlasting life. The relationship can be between a mother and a child, a man and a woman, or of one person reaching out to their love. No matter what kind of relationship there is, the bond between the two people is shown through literary devices to enhance the romantic impression upon the reader. Through Dudley Randall’s “Ballad of Birmingham,” Ben Jonson’s “To Celia,” and William Shakespeare’s “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” relationships are viewed as a powerful bond, an everlasting love, and even a romantic hymn.
Self-disclosure is very intimate and personal. Self-disclosure is between two people who care for each other. We didn’t have a hookup on our first date. We took the time to get to know each other first. A hookup is when someone has sex on the first date or first interaction. We were smarter and had more respect for each other. Our relationship had intimacy, passion, and commitment. We were intimate towards each other. After a few dates and hanging out we started to have more passion for each other. We began to have more commitment with each other after a few month. The triangle theory of love is where a couple has good sex, communicate well, committed to each other, and trust each other. Our relationship was growing and it was very pleasant to be around Laricia. I love her Laricia to this day. Laricia is very romantic and caring. Our love was not romantic love, but it was consummate love. Consummate love is having intimacy, passion and commitment. We were complete and we needed each other more than ever. Our relationship was full of energy and love. For example, when I saw her wearing a sexy dress my arousal and thought rose to the highest
Where do I start? How do I begin a farewell when I still can't believe you're gone? How do I say goodbye to a part of my soul?
Being in a relationship, we build particular kind of feelings, which are based on trust, friendship and true love. However, a relationship can give us many feelings which we can’t get from friends or family. A good offers you all the wonderful things of friendship, but with a special closeness and intimacy. A good relationship will teach you to work as a team, and hopefully both people being to...
“Most of our lives consist of socializing with others, beginning new relationships, and strengthening old ones. Love is all around us, embodied in three main categories. Each of these is experienced in a different way; each of these is approached in a different way (Lemon2x).” However, all of them share one common quality- they are not planned, unpredicted, and developed overtime. In addition, an intimate relationship is harder to develop. “Intimacy generally refers to the feeling of being in a close personal association and belonging together. It is a familiar and very close affective connection with another as a result of a bond that is formed through knowledge and experience of the other. Genuine intimacy in human relationships requires dialogue, transparency, vulnerability, and reciprocity (Wikipedia). A lot of people think intimacy is all about sex. Intimacy is connecting with someone of the same or different sex on levels that ignite sexual interactions. There are many possible reasons why some people are attracted to each other and form relationships. Some of these reasons are personality, physical looks, things in common, and differences. These three things are what a relationship is based upon, besides trust and other things such as attraction.
Aside from the science behind love, a relationship cannot subsist upon affection alone. While a sense of endearment is helpful, it is not the most important part of a successful relationship. A couple must learn to communicate effectively in order to move forward in their relationship, a couple must also have a personal compatibility and be able to complement each other well. A couple must also be flexible with each other and be able to resolve conflict well, in order to have a workable relationship. Unfortunately, very few couples realize the amount of effort that must be put into a relationship and enter into things blindly. Many could argue that this is why, on average, a marriage in the US only lasts about 8.8 years and American marriages have a divorce rate of over 40 percent.
Intimate relationships are a lot of times used for one’s personal needs. Relationships are being created with significant others for many different reason. I have never experienced being in a relationship for the wrong reasons, so I cannot talk much about this. However I can tell you a common issue I personally notice in today’s relationship struggling is the partners don’t talk about their feelings with one another. “Difficulty articulating what you feel; many adults don’t know to express what they feel. Instead, you communicate what you think” (Sachs, 2005). I believe this statement has a lot of truth to it because a lot of couples will not talk things out hoping that they will reside, when in reality that doesn’t happen. Tony and I could definitely work on this factor in our relationship, I have a hard time opening up and telling him my feelings about stuff that may be going on. Tony is really good about telling me how he feels at any time. I struggle with this because I push it off not hoping it will reside but because I feel like it is something I will get over and move on with. This is something we both are willing to work on and it will take time to accomplish
“Relationships are what make up our world today, they shape the ways we see things and the way that we do things, relationships affect how we see the world today.” I believe supporting what your partner does, having a great sum of trust and showing your affections towards your partner is what will make a healthy relationship great.
...e,” because he didn’t want my senior year to revolve around someone I can barely see. His detachment reached the point of no response, and he ceased communication all together, saying “It was needed for us to move on until college.” To this day I still love him, and I know he still loves me. He wants the best for me, and although it is painful because I cannot hear his voice, it’s truly what I need. “I will be there at the airport the day you arrive at your future college, I love you forever and always.” These were the last words that I heard from him, harsh, yet caring. To this day I still love him, and try to move on, but no one seems to even come close to this amazing person. “Love at first sight” I once believed as a fools quote, but today I see it as the most amazing thing in the world, something that is achieved by pure chance and luck, only experienced by few.
The idea and development of relationships was always very black and white for me. I had always seen all relationships such as friendships, partnerships, and family relationships, falling under one category. I have recently learned this is not the case at all. There are actually many different components that make up a relationship and as well different categories for different relationships. Robert Sternberg created a model of love called the triangular model of relationships that encompasses the various elements that are necessary for any relationship and as well the different classifications of relationships (Brannon, 2011). In his model, there are three components that make up the triangle.
