Personal Experience: My Experience In A Social Work Field

Life gives each person different experiences that affect individual opportunities and future choices. My experiences have included sitting on both sides of the desk either seeking or providing assistance. I have chosen to use my experiences to help people to overcome their obstacles. My interest in the social work field began at the age of nineteen, while employed by a home health agency. Part of my responsibilities was to teach clients basic life skills, including basic budgeting, money and time management skills. Frequently, my job involved providing companionship; this was when clients would explain their concerns or their social service’s needs. Being a resourceful and creative person I am able to think outside of the box for solutions. I am non-judgmental of individual situations, allowing me the ability to work with a diverse population of clients. My perseverance in the face of adversity helps me to handle life and be empathic with people with their individual situations. My curiosity allows me to question and research subjects, continually gaining knowledge. This was advantageous during my different practicums in my undergraduate social work program. I spent many hours researching about cultural diversity and gaining knowledge of how to engage and work with different cultures. I am currently advocating for a Spanish speaking woman to access and receive needed medical treatment. Continuing to make sure she understands the process, her options and the available resources. My perseverance helps me to thoroughly complete projects and follow up on outcomes. I am also meticulous, hard-working, have good self-discipline while taking my obligations
