At this point in my college career I have picked a major and I am sticking with it. I have chosen elementary education, and to double minor in reading and elementary math. Last year when I came to central as a freshman I was unsure what I wanted to major in but I was leaning towards business. After taking one business class I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me, I then took introduction to education and instantly fell in love with everything about it. Since last year I have been taking more and more education classes as I am now in my second year of college, embarking on my third year. Ideally I would like to teach kindergarten, but I would be happy with any of the lower elementary grades, I would also be happy teaching preschool or working at a daycare to start out. As a college student paying for classes you find that you become very excited when a university program can double count towards your minor. Luckily this class for me counted towards my reading minor and as a writing intensive class!

This class has taught me many valuable lessons, lessons that I will carry with me in years to come. This class was a pleasant surprise that I was able to learn valuable lessons to help me in my future career. As stated above like learning about the different stages of language acquisition and how it occurs in each child, and how a child cannot truly learn the exceptions until they are ready. To actually learning about the difference between language learning, and language acquisition rather than just touching on the subjects. As well as learning that the best age to learn a language is between the ages of three to seven. It was also very helpful to see a real life example of what missing the critical period for language can do to a child. I have a feeling that the lessons I have learned in The Nature of Language will stay with me for a lifetime.
