A Walk to Remember The movie A Walk to Remember is a 2002 romantic drama film. The movie is set in North Carolina and begins with a rebellious teen named Landon and his friends getting caught on school property drinking and bullying another classmate. The boys end up injuring the students after a lousy prank they played on the boy. The principal gives Landon the option to be expelled from school or to allow him to tutor other classmates and join the school play as his punishment. Landon takes the principals offer and begins rehearsing for the play. Then Landon meets Jamie a girl who has gone to school with him since kindergarten. The movie begins with Landon and his friends expressing their aggression which is the intentional injury or harm to another person. (Feldman, 2016 p.268). When they injure one of their classmates by playing a joke on him, and it does not end well. The process Landon and his friend making fun of a playing a dangerous prank of the boy is known as bullying. Children who experience bullying often are passive and become loners (Feldman, 2016). Almost 85% of girls and 80% of boys experience some form of harassment in school, and 160,000 U.S. school children stay home because of their fear of being bullied (Feldman, 2016 p.344). My other topic is over Emotional Development which can be seen through a person’s emotional intelligence, the set of skills that underline the accurate assessment, evaluation, expression, and regulation of emotions (Feldman, 2016 p.310). Also, Emotional self-regulation which is the capability to adjust emotions to a desired state and level of intensity (Feldman, 2016 p.268). I feel these topics of emotional development is what allowed for Jamie to cope with all the challenging obstacles she faced in her life. In my opinion, the movie A Walk to Remember handled adolescent issue well and I fell it predicted and portrayed the film in a way that made you feel as if you were going through these problems with Jamie and Landon throughout the movie. I think the movie provided a great example of life challenging situation that people may have to face. “Remember the Titians” is based on a true story of African American football coach, Harman Boone; traveled to Alexandria, Virginia to coach the T.C. Williams Titans. Coach Boone faced a difficult task coaching at a primary Caucasian school in early 1970. The Caucasion players were reluctant to play for a black coach. He also had an awkward relationship with assistant coach, Bill Yoast. Not only did Coach Boone and his family face challenges with his team and colleges, there was also challenges with the communities. As these two coaches began to work, sync and show their truthfulness and principle to the young men they were coaching, they and the community began to make a strong impact and everyone will always, remember the Titians.

Every single person on earth has gone through the stage of middle childhood in their lives; it is inevitable. This stage is an important time in an individual’s life as it provides them the opportunity to experience new challenges and to make new friends and relationships. Middle childhood is a time of slow yet steady growth of a person in the aspects of physical, mental, and emotional development. In the movie The Sandlot, the young boys show visible signs of school-age development which include the concept of self-esteem, showing interests in the opposite sex, and overcoming challenges. While there are many other things that imply development in school-age children, these three topics are the most prominent in the film.
The movie teaches us to look beyond the cover and into who someone is as a person. We also learn that sometimes contact with people makes us reconsider our judgement towards them, to find out the real person underneath.
Children have often been viewed as innocent and innocent may be a nicer way to call children naive. Since children’s lives are so worry free they lack the knowledge of how to transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. Their lack of knowledge may be a large part of their difficulties growing up, which could be a few rough years for many. In books like the boy in the striped pajamas the story is told from the point of view of a little boy, this way we get a full view of how innocent he is. In this book the writer shows the reader first hand how a child viewed the holocaust and how his innocence cost him his life. Then in books like the perks of being a wallflower Charlie is a teen whom is struggling with the transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. In this book the writer gives a first hand look at how difficult it can be to transition into an adolescent. Charlie has many difficulties in this book; he is in search of his identity and how to fit in.
If a good movie is one that makes you think, Mindwalk must be superb. However, I haven’t even read the book it was based on and I can say that the book must have been better. The actors are laughable, and the physicists’ accent changes with each new scene. Furthermore, the transitions to each scene are as smooth as sandpaper. The purpose of this movie wasn’t, and with good reason, to be glamorous though. As many of our “Hollywood” movies are. The fast action, sex, blood, money crazed movies that we all love. The fact that Mindwalk was based on a book also gives some explanation to the choppy scenes, as many omissions were probably made. Financing played a role in the actors chosen for the movie, a kind of ironic humor if you think about it in context to what the entire movie is about. All of this in mind, and the fact that it was a lengthy 2+ hours; it could never be a blockbuster hit. I, on the contrary, enjoyed it. Some of the issues raised are those that many of us think about often, or maybe I am just hoping that I’m not the only one.
Charlie demonstrates a socially awkward freshman in high school who has always been a wallflower. Soon into his first year of high school, he meets two friends, Sam and Patrick who teach him how to live outside his comfort zone. What nobody knows about Charlie is that he was molested by his Aunt Helen. This caused a major mental damage that lasted throughout Charlie’s life. Thankfully, Patrick and Sam were always there to support Charlie in times that Charlie felt so alone in life with no hope. The movie demonstrates throughout Charlie’s first year in high school that true friends will always be there for one another, that child abuse can cause many mental illnesses, and that family is the number one support system.

It 's not always about how things look on the outside, but more about your inner self. More about getting those individuals to believe in themselves.The film helped me to see the value of building up self esteem. I know in math some of the kids that say they don’t like math just had a bad experience with it. Usually I’ll try and give them something simple just to start to let them feel a sense of accomplishment. Then I usually will continue to build from there. This film never gets old. It’s still very relatable today and a young audience would be able to see themselves in any of those characters. This film reminded me that kids are coming to class with many different experiences, emotional phases, as well as insecurities. I must remain cognizant of them along with continuing to be that positive role model they need. I would recommend this film to anyone that has kids they would like to keep encouraged as well the ones they believe are
Adolescence is the stage in life when you are no longer a child, but not yet an adult. There are many things that still need to be explored, learned and conquered. In the film Thirteen, the main character, Tracy Freeland, is just entering adolescence. While trying to conquer Erikson’s theory of Identity vs. Role confusion, Tracy is affected by many influences, including family and friends that hinder her development. Many concepts from what we have learned in class can be applied to this character from identity development, to depression, to adolescent sexuality and more. In this film Tracy is a prime example of an adolescent and much of what I have learned this year can be applied to her character.
There are many more examples throughout this movie that can be connected or assessed to the many different concepts that was learned. There are many real-life events and these concepts are important because they allow people to see how different types of people and families deal with stress and problems and it is important not to judge or jump to conclusions and maybe take a step back and take time to consider what others may be going
The rest of my summer vacation was filled with restless nights, guilty thoughts, and worrying about what would become of me once school came back into session. Sam had spent 6 years of our friendship protecting me from bullies. I never learned to defend myself before his passing. School started and, to cope without Sam, I carried a teddy bear throughout the school day. One day a kid on the bus decided to make fun of me and I snapped. That day was the first time since starting school in Harper that I had stood up for myself. I learned that the anger people brought to me didn’t have to stay inside for only myself to witness and that I was strong enough to stand up for what I believed in. Since then my attitude has been better, I have slowly progressed to the happy mindset I had as a little kid, and I was finally at peace with
One of the biggest challenges that Christy had to face was to interact socially with others. Mr. Brown kept young Christy hidden from the insensitive stares and comments made from the people living in the community. People would constantly make rude remarks about Christy while him being present to him them. They would talk about how he was a burden to his mother when blaming him for when she fell down the stairs and that there was no way for him to kick a ball to earn a goal. For this project I selected A Walk to Remember written by Nicholas Sparks and directed by Adam Shankman. The cinematography was done by Julio Macat. The book was released in October 1999 while the movie premiered in 2002. At large the book and the movie tell the same story except for the period. The book is set in the 50’s but the movie was set in the mid 90’s to attract teenagers rather than alienate them. A Walk to Remember is about a girl named Jamie (Mandy Moore) and a boy named Landon (Shane West) who played the lead roles in the movie. The movie is a good interpretation of the movie as it captures the most important points with a few additional details. At large the movie illustrates the scenes described in the book well by showing how Landon transformed from a moody and reckless jock in high school to a loving and caring man. Like the book, the movie shows the scene with Jamie warning Landon to not fall in love with her. Jamie even reminds Landon to not fall in love with her when Landon confesses his love for her. When Landon finds out Jamie is terminally ill, he does everything he can to fulfill all her wishes until she passes away.
