Law Enforcement Case Study

1971 Words4 Pages

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, law enforcement is the term that “describes the individuals and agencies responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining public order and public safety.” Because we as a society want peace and order, we follow rules, norms, and regulations, aside from having a written law that dictates what we can do and what we cannot do as members of the society. Thus, it follows that there will be a corresponding governing body who will enforce these rules to maintain the peace and protect us from any impeding harm. In the same way that we have a social contract with the government, in which the rulers are responsible to the people while the ruled give up certain privileges in exchange for protection and safety, so do we also have that contract with our law enforcement officers. Without the police force, our system can easily fall into anarchy, and we are all privileged for their efforts in protecting us against criminal behavior.
