Emotional intelligence is ‘a set of competencies that allows you to apply thinking and feeling to make optimal decisions.’ (SEI leadership report, 2013) In the report, the author makes critical analysis of the result of the SEI report. By presenting the analysis by ‘Know yourself’, ‘Choose yourself’ and ‘Give yourself’, the author has a more clear understanding of her strengths and weakness concerning her EQ. Based on the skills and analysis, the author applies the theory into her future professional career development in order to achieve her career goal. 2. Know yourself 2.1. Enhance Emotional Literacy According to the SEI report, the author got ‘functional’ as the detail result concerning ‘Enhance Emotional Literacy’. In other words, the author had awareness and clarity into the essential drivers of behavior of her and her teammates. (SEI leadership report, 2013, p. 11) With this ability of recognizing self-emotions, the author can make strategic usage of feeling in order to match emotions to the task. (Gardner and Qualter, 2010) What’s more, on the basis of knowing the author’s self-emotions, the author also has good understanding of others‘ emotional messages’ and can take good response on appropriate emotional level. For the author, the report gives her a more clear illustration of the level of enhancing emotional literacy that she reaches. She can identify others’ feeling and grasp the causes and effects. The author knows that it is an asset that she can use to leverage for high performance during her work. However, she needs to know how to apply this skill when it is stressful or high-pressure.
