Marriage Equality has been an issue in the country and all across the world for a long time as people have been fighting this discrimination for a very long time and it is essentially stereotyping all of us to say that if we are a man we must love and marry a woman and if we are a woman we must love and marry a man. We make people feel bad for what they feel inside and the fear of rejection from society can be crippling to a person and I know many openly gay people that have had a hard time coming out and finally being the people that they want to be and some said they were so ashamed of how they felt inside that they had suicidal thoughts and some even acted on them. One of the strategies that they employed was gay pride parades to get them out into the open and get people to notice not only how many of them are in these communities that hide in the shadows but to help promote diversity and to help the people struggling to accept who they are and let them know that they have a support group that ready and willing to help them on their journey. African Americans were fighting for equality and gay and lesbian couples are still fighting for that cause as there are still people set in their ways that they won’t sell gay couples wedding cakes or even marriage causing Workplace Discrimination by outing them to their boss which some company’s still don’t have clauses in there employee handbooks forbidding discrimination based on sexual orientation
I think that technology and social media has exposed us more to the LGBT community and made us more socially aware of these people and made them less taboo as they were back in the times before the internet, Facebook and twitter and the multitudes of other social media. I think that social media has been a great addition to the cause of marriage equality and gay rights because it allows us to see their struggles and react in an instant in a comment or tweet or even a snapchat message.
