Islam has impacted the world in tremendous ways. Islamic civilizations have helped shape not only the nations around them but, also those that came after them. They set a standard for how to treat the people who are being ruled and how to communicate with the peoples around them. Islamic civilizations also placed significant importance on working towards increasing ones’ knowledge and using it to help make the world a better place for all people. These advancements included making major contributions within the fields of mathematics, science, and even engineering. Peoples with different faiths including both Christians and Jews could live freely under Islamic rule but the same couldn’t be said around the world where persecution was widespread. No one was forced into slavery and they could live and work as they pleased, there was no need to fear being treated as less than. The abolition of slavery was a very new concept at that time, and one that would not be widespread for many more years to come. A great example of that would be in America, where slavery was rife until fairly recently. Islamic civilizations, following the guidelines presented in Islam were working from the very beginning to make their societies a safe haven for all people. Islam is a religion of peace for all, and the Islamic civilizations put in place rulings that worked towards reaching that goal. Though no civilization is without its faults, the Muslims aimed to provide the non-Muslim members of their societies with fair rights, much like the American Constitution does today. The town of Mecca was the birthplace of Islam, at first the leaders of the city refused the changing of this new religion and forced Muhammad to leave. After Muhammad's death in 632 C.E, Abu Bakr was named as the first caliph or chief of Islam. He helped conquer more land for Islam and helped spread the religion. The Crusades are thought to be a major event that affected European history. They had a huge influence on how the world progressed into the present. After Alexius I, the Byzantine Emperor sent a letter to Pope Urban II in 1093 saying that his empire was taken over by Seljuk Turks, who were Muslim, Pope Urban II decided to fight back and take the Holy Land, Jerusalem, back from the Muslims that were living on that land. These Crusades had many positive and negative effects on the world.

Islam is a major world religion. Its origin can be traced back to 610 CE in Arabia. The basis of this religion is the revelations to the prophet Mohammad. Dissatisfied with his life, he traveled to deserts, hills, and the wilderness surrounding Mecca, where he lived, to meditate and reflect. He became a new man through his revelations, which many of his followers believe Allah transmitted to him through his angel Gabriel. Islam was originally an Arab religion, but many different beliefs and practices were added to it, making it extremely popular and aiding in its rapid spread. This new religion spread to many different areas surrounding Arabia, both under Mohammad and after his death. The Muslim Empire grew to encompass Spain and the Eastern Roman Empire as well Persia and Africa. Many different practices and methods were used to spread Islam. The political class is too busy fighting among themselves to care for anyone else. Children are roaming the streets and begging for work to feed their dying, hungry stomachs. This is not a scene from a horror movie, but rather the reality of the beginning of post classical era. In these times of hardship the people turned to a higher power, which resulted in a religious boom. The Achievements of The Islamic Civilization Islam, one of the most successful religions was started by Muhammad in Arabia and had a massive impact on the world. If it weren't for Islam the world would have been a very different place to live in. Muslims didn't always invent things; sometimes they improved on other people's inventions e.g. the number system, the astrolabe and much more. The first Muslims were Arabs and they went on to conquer many countries.
