The market in the 19th century was expanding quickly. The urban areas received great jumps in the population due to people wanting to come and make a living while working at the different factories. The market development changed as well. They were using materials off the land from surrounding areas and were using it to make certain things. These materials came in bulk and there was so much of it that it was easily keeping these factories with product. One of the biggest used materials was cotton which was used for clothing and things of that sort. In this time though, the only people to truly get rich was the factory owners. These owners started using a method called the division of labor which assigns people specific tasks and gives people with no experience jobs that experienced people already had and they had to learn a new job therefore not making very much money at all. It was just a giant circle that these employees got put through. These factories also put craft workers out of commission due to the speed of the factory. So the factory was slowly becoming the only source of work for the people. Some people may not have liked the factory as well because the end product would not have been as good as the craft workers who took their time and made high quality goods whereas the factories are just striving towards mass quantities. But some people did like the idea of the factories as they thought that America could send these products to other places and bring them more revenue. This was also a conflict of interest between the two groups as most of history is this way. The women at Lowell had an interesting partnership with the factories there in Lowell Massachusetts. He also said he wants to try and save as many slaves as possible and in doing so saving the Union the best way he thought how. The soldier’s stories tell the war quite accurately. They talk about how miserable the war is and how gruesome the excruciating injuries are and the colossal amount of bodies piled up. They go on to say that they are tired of seeing this and hope that the war will end soon and resolve everything. They do not want all these people time and lives to go to waste. At the end of the war, the attitudes of the Southern people did change. They were mourning as they lost many family members during this war and slavery was abolished and everyone was able to be free after this brutal war that lasted four years.
